My father-in-law has a 01 long bed 4X4 diesel. His question is "can we lower the ram by 2"? His 5th wheel is already raised up by 2" and per the mfg co. (it could be dangerous if raised any more)? TDR I really need you assistance on this.

After driving around for about 10K Miles I had the dealer flip the axles on my 5er. Now it doesn't look like it's dragging in the back and the load distribution on the duel axles is much better.

The dealer who sold me my 5er wouldn't sell it to me without flipping the axles. Didn't have enough clearance between the trailer and bed. Doing this raised the trailer about 4 inches.

Really glad they did. I stopped at a travel park in Tennesse with some realy wicked inclines. Trailer came darned close to touching the bed even then.

ftd87-If your hitch is adjusted all the way down on the truck and all the way up on the 5th-and your trailer axles have been flipped- that is the springs are on top of the axle and you still need more- #ad
there are a few ways to go- raise the trailer higher ( I agree with the dealer- It makes the rig top heavy and worse a big sail for those cross winds we get here in the west) Lower the truck- look at the tires first- if he has the 19. 5's go back to the stock size- or if he has the stock size try to find a smaller diameter tire or third try the PSD fix. remove the blocks between the springs and axle- or my faverite-- #ad
gotta buy a new 5th-- worked for me #ad

the axles cannot be flipped on this model. that is why I'm asking for help to lower the back by about 2".

thanks
Frank

Frank, I lowered mine by replacing the 5" block with a 2-1/2" block. Had new u-bolts built also. Have driven 16,000 miles since lowering and have not had any problems.

I have pictures and plans that I can e-mail to you if you are interested.

Frank I removed the stock block on my 3500 and manufactured 2 inch solid blocks. Makes the truck look nicer and has not created any problems. Had to readjust my headlights

I have a 2500 4x4 and bought a 30' fiver with lots of clearance but feel I can't have enough as I go into rough country when possible. When I load my rig up the rear sags an inch or so below the front (also raising the rear of the trailer) . I put air bags on it to level it out. I probably didn't need them but I think the trailer and truck should be level.
If you lower the rear without dealing with the front you may get into handling problems, depending on the kingpin weight.
A person must recognize these things before buying the wrong equipment! I think your father in law should go back to the dealer and tell them they sold an unmanageable rig... ...
