Do you let your wife 'help' you back up?

GCWR and RV shopping

I just bought a new (2002 left over) alfa 30rlds,so far we're real pleased!I went to camping world looking for a 5ter tailgate, what they had would'nt fit my 2003 3500,lb,srw. what are you 2003 ctd using,I'm almost broke now so any good buy's? the only one cw had was a metal framed blown plastic that was to wide at the bottom,&the latches did'nt match up.

when i took delivery i found out that they had filled my 100 gal f/w tank,830#'s,i feared tail droop, did'nt happen!sure is big.

appreciate advise on tail gate,i know it's not a must have, but i butted my smaller 5th backin in on a angle & wife does'nt like holding the regular gate. thank's pat

I have the plastic one you're talking about - Stromberg-Carlson - and really like it. I only put it on the truck when I'm towing since it's so light and easy to install (or steal for that matter). It's not the cheapest but it suits my needs.

The Handy louvered tailgate for around $250 is made of steel and very strong. I painted mine to match the truck and it looks great.

Casey

Thanks Casey,I'll call handy & price them. I tried camping world, took the blown plastic out to the truck,& it would'nt fit the bottom pins. apparently a 2003 is different then a 2002 & earlier mod.

I have the Husky Liner aluminum tailgate. I like it because it is strong and light weight. I just use it when I am traveling. It was a little pricey but the aluminum is a pretty good match with my silver truck.

I added the tailgate tail light and the badges. I put the badges on so the PSD's would know what just passed them;) .

That looks sharp! Did you do anything special to mount the OEM light to this tailgate? What type of mileage are you getting with your truck?

Paul

Thanks, Paul.

I made up a back plate out of heavy aluminum stock and bored holes in it to accommodate the lighting harness. I used s/s bolts and a couple of brackets to hold it in place. I put some heavy duty velcro (loop side) to cushion the metal and that was about it. It works.

Normally, I get 16-18 empty and 10-12 towing my 15k fifth-wheel. The truck weighed 8440 at the CAT Scales with the toolbox, hitch, full tank of fuel and my 80# Golden Retriever, Woody. I am happy with the mileage.

I have the Handy Ind. V steel louverd tailgate & love it, there # is 1-800-453-1314. The cost is $265. 00 + SHIPPING when ordered through them. But here comes the gooood part, if you order from them and you tell them that you have a business the price is an amazing $160. 00 + shipping (Dah), remember it's your money.

The light is the stock Mopar unit. You have to buy the harness extra. :(
