Just a question for you guys that have your 5th wheel hitch installed. How did you/they hook up the wires to the plug in bed?Did they splice them or is there a adapter to plug into? I read some where someone just made up a long cord to plug into the back bumper, then run it under the bed and up through the stake hole. I don't want to go this route.

I installed my 7-pin plug in the lower left rear area of the inside of the bed. To make my connections, I simply spliced into (all joints soldered and sealed) the existing harness going to the factory 7-pin plug mounted on the receiver. Now I can use either 7-pin plug (the factory one or the one in the bed) depending on what kind of trailer I'm towing.

We normally tow a 36' triple slide 5th wheel - thus, the plug in the bed.

I also have mine in the lower left back of the bed. Ialso have the rv plug on my gooseneck trailer. Makes it handy. I also have the one under the rear bumper for the 4 wheeler trailer.

I have a slide-in, but it is all the same. I added a seven pin connector to the lower left of the inside bed wall as well, and for most connections, I just tapped into the existing harness. The exceptions were the ground (return) and the 12V power line. I beefed up these to a much heavier gauge wire (lower voltage drop) while also adding a solenoid switch to the power line that switches on with the ignition. This prevents the possibility of draining the truck batteries. The rear hitch connector still operates as before.
