yesterday i put in the new nozzles.. i popped my stock #1 injector and it was about 3800psi... added a .5mm shim and it went to 5000psi... settled on .15mm shims and 4500 psi is where im at... i checked each one before installing it and all came to 4500 with the .15 shim... accept #5 it was at 4500 psi with no shim... the engine now sounds more even... it smokes less and has more power... I put my AFC in the middle and it was not enough fuel so slid it forward where I had it with the stock nozzles ... I can tell the extra pressure bumped my timing back a little ... overall on a couple of short drives im very happy... these are 145 degree VCO 5X.012 from DAP... they were great to work with ...Im running a 16cm housing on my HX35 and hit about 38psi with the new 5X12 nozzles .. Ive been looking at turbos... the S300 62 68 14 looks good but at $1000 + - the HX40 is starting to look pretty good at half or less used... Ive read up on them and most I see are pretty close in size to the S300 I mentioned ... I can just get a diamond eye DP to connect to the rest of my 4 inch exhaust and Im done... Ive read some snapping shafts on HX40 chopping the throttle with manuals... I barked my turbo a couple of times yesterday with the converter locked by accident so Ill have to watch that ....

any input anyone has would be appreciated

thanks
JAK

I ran a modified hx 40 for years without issue but I don't think a used stock version will make you happy There are better custom turbos on the market, the extra money spent will save you$ in the long run

thanks man .. I hear you ... I do think the 60 65 16 HX40 is a good option and I do have a really good turbo builder who could later do a bigger comp wheel... but suppose at that point im close to the price of the S300 62 68 14 which will work well with my current setup and give me a little room to grow as well...

thanks again for your time

picked up a very clean HX40 with a 16cm housing shipped for $300.. I have an awesome turbo builder Charlie Brown at Evergreen Turbo in Ocala Florida Ill have him upgrade the compressor side and balance everything later if I feel I need more .... I also bought a Diamond Eye HX40 downpipe... I have a Diamond Eye exhaust on my truck so maybe it will just bolt on.. if not welding wont be a problem...

the place that I dealt with had several other very clean HX40 with 16cm and 18cm housings ...

put my HX40 in yesterday... I pulled the housings off to re clock everything... it has the 60X86 7 blade comp wheel and the 67X74 12 blade turbine wheel there are 3 turbine wheels a 64 and a 67 ... the inducers on the turbines are all the same on the 40... the third turbine is the 10 blad 64mm exducer used in the super 40 ...the larger exducer will allow me to run a larger wheel on the comp side if I want to later...... the 40 is a bit laggier... at 1800RPM boost is pretty quick to come up... the 35 with the 16cm made pretty quick boost at 1500RPM so I gave up a few hundred rpm on the bottom but man... what I gained higher in the rpms is well worth it :) the truck hauls ***... I notice cruising on the highway at 2200RPM im not pushing the throttle as much as I did with the 35 and my boost is lower...was often 8-10 now 3-5... I need to get it on the dyno... I also need to go through the front of the trans and get the power pack clutch packs in there before I kill it :) 4th locked I peak about 43psi mostly 41ish I had to re rout a coolant pipe from the trans cooler under the exhaust manifold...
there seems to be allot of mis information about the wheel sizes on these turbos... so I measured mine
I may buy a 14cm 35 turbine housing and have it machined for my 40 turbine but Im pretty happy for $300 a third of an S300

take care
