Hummer H1 Question

If some one was lucky enough to get a buy back... ... . Why in the world would some one get another 6. 0. And worse yet why would you want a brand new 6. 4. Maybe wait and see if the 6. 4 is a dud first. Some people are really slow learners.

I think they need to first step back and evaluate the problems accurately. Their biggest issue was when Ford stepped in and designed their own ECM program to run the motor. International has been running this motor with their own ECM's for a couple years without any of the issues that the Ford guys are having

I do have sympathy for these guys only because they have spent huge coin on these trucks.

But that whole engine program has created a giant circus and everyone is in panic mode... What's worse is that they are so blinded by 'brand loyalty' they are looking to find ways to purchase ANOTHER one after the buy back!!!!

That is low mentality on display. I'm a Chevrolet guy through and through and yet here I am with a Dodge Cummins... .

I bought a truck, not a brand. Those poor ford guys need to wake up and look over the fence.

it seems like the weak link in any of these trucks is when the truck manufacturer "tinkers" with the engine design. kinda like lift pumps on a cummins. cummins itself doesnt have a problem with these in other apps. , just DC. Nobody is perfect i guess, but atleast the cummins is as close to perfect as it gets.

"Yes, the 6. 0L is currently planned to be "replaced" by a 6. 4L in 2007. Reasons could be increased HP and torque rating needed to blow the competition out of the water. I would not say they are giving up on the 6. 0L. I would bet some of the 6. 0L technology will be used in the 6. 4L engine

Toivo "

Ummmm yes ... blow the competition out of the water ... like Dodge & Chevy will sit around and wait for that to happen in 2007.

Another statement one of those guys made was that the engines/trannys are at their limit and that there was no need for anything more than 660 or so ft. /lbs. since the trucks can pull beyond their ratings with ease. Well I would say ... then up the trucks ratings to 25,999 lbs. and go for 1000 ft. /lbs.

I love the sour grapes put out by people who have old trucks and say there is no need for more power.

Not True - cummins itself doesnt have a problem with these in other apps., just DC.

I was told by the Foreman at Cummins NW that there are lots of applications that have this problem, from school buses to Box Vans and in fact they call it the COMBO plan that takes out the VP44 and the lift pump - about $3000 worth of repair. That's why I put a FASS in - to prevent that.....

The Ford guys are one loyal bunch. On the other hand, Dodge is blowing another huge opportunity by not having a full crew cab or better yet a 4500.

I think the higher ups will eventual catch on to what we have been saying.

I was a ford loyalist. Nothing wrong with it. Its good to look around and find what suits your present needs.

i remember hearing rumors that there will be a camless version of the psd that the fraud SD'a are gonna get. that will be nice... i can't wait for camless diesel to come on the market as something more than beta testing it is in now. . compression release exhaust braking with a little programing. better emissions without egr/cat systems, better low end power, better high end power. it is the future of the high speed diesel engine... [high speed diesel is anything over ±1000rpm]

camless would be interesting but whos gonna work on em. Talk about a complex piece of machinery. Everyone would technically have a jake if we went camless. Emissions would be great becaues of the incredible amount of manipulation that would be made available.

So is 4000 rpms ultra high speed?

:-laf...

iirc, the speed rating of diesel engines is...

0-100 rpm is low speed -big heavy marine engines and other big generators

100-1000 rpm is medium speed -mining equipment, power generation, locomotives...

1000 rpm + high speed. anything above that is high speed. 4k is getting up there, but still ok [doesn't that new fraud posd 6. 0 turn about that and the vw's tdi's do that also... ]

I'm with Nick... hopefully by the time I'm ready to buy another truck there will be camless diesels available.

Today driving past a Ford dealer I saw a guy with a salesman crawling all over a new F-350 with the 6L. I had an almost uncontrollable urge to stop and just tell him to visit dieselstop.com before making any purchase.

Absolutely you can ... even an ISX would fit. Just drive it over to the Monster Garage and let Jesse have at it ... I'm sure it would be one interesting show!

UNH-HUHhhh... ;) ;)

JUST what we need, still MORE electronic controls to befuddle us and leave us stranded - or at the mercy of the dealership "experts"...

It's ONE thing to be stranded by a broken mechanical item easily identified and available at the local auto parts store - and something entirely DIFFERENT to be stalled along the road by a Taiwan 5 cent resistor burned out or drifted outta tolerance value and buried deep inside some magic electronic box...

When yer stereo or TV electronis take a dump because of a failed two bit component, yer simply without entertainment - when yer TRUCK does it, yer left AFOOT - possibly in a VERY difficult situation!;) ;)

KEEP yer dern "miraculous" electronics - *I'll* stay as mechanical as possible as long as I can, and my '02 is already FAR more "miraculous" than I'm really comfortable with... :p ;) :D

TTT

Anyone have any more info on it? I found more info on TDS here: http://forums.thedieselstop.com/ubb...76013&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=31&fpart=1 but can't find any more info on ratings or how the turbos are set up, what size, etc.

I think they two turbos are for when the first one pukes!

Just like twin engine aircraft. Sure they are great, but can also be more trouble then their worth!

Not saying twin-ed Cummins are problematic, but they can't get a single-turbo PSD working right, and they want to change displacement AND add another turbo?

I have to say Amen to that brother! I want to keep things as simple as possible for as long as possible. I don't mind giving up some performance and/or fuel efficiency in exchange for simplicity of operation and ease of troubleshooting/maintenance. For me personally this approach puts me way ahead in the long run. If and when the body/frame that currently houses my 12V Cummins dies of old age or mishap, I'll transplant the Cummins into another willing recipient.
