6.2L Diesel Tach....alt hookup?

I have a Dixco Diesel tach that is listed for a 6. 2L and hooks up inside the alternator? I did a search for this and didn't find many helpful answers. I know the Dodge tach kits have magnets that attach to the crank pulley, (for non tach optioned trucks, in which case the wire is under the dashboard)... . however I was wondering if anyone had found a way to hook it up through the alternator instead? I'd really like to be able to use this tach (price is right).

Check with Lil' Dog. Sounds like the same hookup as his Motorola tach. He has pictures of the install post somewhere here but I couldn't find them.

I had one of the alt. driven tachs. on a 85 6. 2 I had I believe the wire hooks on the center post of the diode trio. I know it sounds like a weird way to drive a tach. but it does work. hope this helps.

Check out the post by unclebilly on tachs as I showed how my tach hooks up. I had to do this investigation to replace the alternator about 2 months ago.

Thanks guys, so you think ANY alternator type tach should work with this method? I don't want to break the seal on the Tach box unless I'm pretty sure I can use it, want to resell it if I can't!!
