Anybody got a Diesel related desktop wallpaper?

What do you think of this plate?

hey guys!

a friend of mine is interested in buying a 98 GMC 3\4 ton 4X4 with the 6. 5 diesel with 115,000 on the clock. . are these motors any good? and what are some of the problems that they have with them?... any in put would be great, he doesnt want to buy something he has to dump a ton of money into to keep it running. .

Thanks!

Tell him to look for a Dodge/Cummins and stay away from anything made by GM. If he can get by with a lighter truck, I'd consider a Toyota Trunda.

Well the biggest problem is the injection pump. There is what's called the Pump Mounted Driver on the side that should be relocated as the heat from being in the intake valley kills them. With alil work and timing to the injection pump by somebody that knows what their doing can make them run pretty good, close to a stock/lightly bombed 12V.

Well I ever own one? Not a chance. But they can be dependable or they can be a money pit. Don't expect much performance towing either.

Tell him to walk away right now!!

boss/cousin has a 95 1 ton dually 4x4 thats GUTLESS and has 95000mi on it THEN the block cracked so he just spent alot of $$$ for a new factory crate motor so yeah its gutless as well!!! and the motor swap stunk!!! I dont enjoy working on GMC/Chevy's

my 6. 2 is even worse!!! RUN from GM diesels and search for a cummins

Ian

ps Tom youre comming to IRP this year arnt you?!?

Look at my signature... then tell him to RUN, not walk away from that one. My suburban had Seven injection pumps in 141000 miles. All were covered by GM warranty, but if this one goes, I am on my own. The 6. 5 runs with 22 or 23 to 1 compression, this causes cracked head and blocks. The aftermarket on those now builds them with 18 to 1 compression and turns up the boost. They get really hot when towing in stock form. I bought mine because I could not afford a diesel Excursion and I needed a large suv for the wife. If your friend is just looking at a pickup, tell him to get a real diesel and buy a cummins.
