I am approaching end of warantee (500 mi) and have been trying to wrap up issues. In considering new tires and or rims for my 2500 4wd I noticed the importance of rim width compatability.

Mine came with the stock upgrade 8x16 alloys with mich m/s 265/75/16 tires. I noticed that the spare underneath is the 6. 5" steel rim. Michelin's site spec's that this tire has a rim width range of 7. 0" - 8. 0" . I think that the steel one is below spec... you know how sticky dealers can be with the spec's when it comes time for them to honor their end...

Has anyone pursued this issue with the dealers? Do you alloy 265/75 folks have an alloy spare also (was I shorted?)

Thank You all verry much ... I am grateful for your help... cheers:)

Actually, the steel spares on the trucks that came with the 16x8 alloys are 7. 5" wide. They look very simliar to the older plain steel wheels that were only 6. 5", but they are a little different. Y2K was the first year for the 16x8 alloys and the wider 16x7. 5 base steel wheels.

TradedV10 is correct. My 2001. 5 also came with a 16x7. 5 steel rim on the spare. I wanted 2 more of the aluminum rims so I can have 2 spares (for hunting, and off-roading) and I would then rotate both spares through actual use when I rotate my tires, so they would all wear out at approximately the same time. I put up a Wanted ad in the Classified section on the TDR web site, and a local member who had taken his aluminum rims off and replaced them with Weld rims sold me a couple of his old rims.
