6.7 air filter housing swap into an 06

i have an 06 with a crappy aftermarket air filter in it. I want to put in a stock 6.7 style. I know i need the air box and lid as well as the hose from the box to the turbo as it is bigger on the lid end. I plugged of the hose that goes up the the breather as it is not needed on the 5.9. On the 6.7 there are 2 sensors while the 5.9 only has one. I plugged off the small sensor hole but my Mass Air Flow sensor is way too small for the hole in the 6.7 air box lid.

Has anyone done this before? if I go and buy a 6.7 sensor will it work with my 5.9 wiring?

Because I know someone is going to ask WHY did i do this I'll answer it now. There is a deep 5.9 filter but it is not common and as easy to get as the 6.7 one is. Besides I had a 6.7 set up and didn't have a stock 5.9 one.

The 4” 5.9 filter has been the standard filter for more than a decade, I have a hard time believing it’s difficult to get. I’ve haven’t even seen, or heard of anyone using, the 2” filter in a LONG time.

There isn’t a mass airflow sensor at all on the 5.9, only the AAT (IAT) sensor. I would be very surprised if the 6.7 AAT sensor works.

I would just get a 5.9 box and run the standard 4” filter that every parts house should carry on their shelf. MOPAR and Wix are the 2 preferred brands thou.

Same here, it's very easy to buy from the local parts store or online everywhere. Never had a problem to source it.

Only sometimes I've had to teach the parts guy that there is a "new" filter version with 4" plate.

Even the Valvoline Oil change place had it in stock.

I would not do a BHAF unless needed. A sealed high flow airbox is far superior to a BHAF.

Ambient Air Temp, it tells the ECM the pre-turbo temp and pressure.

I solved my problem by putting my sensor in the small hole and capping off the big hole in the air filter lid. I did this on my 03 years ago and had just forgotten how I did it. Problem solved.

Btw. I buy all my filters at Cummins. It's the Only place I have ever bought them at

The deep filter is still the primary filter for the 5.9. It did not come out before the 6.7 filter, but was designed based on it's performance. Bottom line is that the OEM 4" filter will give you the same performance and filtering as the 6.7 filter without all the filter box modifications.

From a 2007 5.9L. Is this what you're looking for? Looks like its missing a clamp and the restriction gauge. It was removed very early in its life and I just happen to have it.

I now have the 6.7 set up in my 06 and am good to go. I am headed to the mountains tomorrow and when u get back I will drill a 4" hole in the bottom of the box and put a down pipe to pick up cold air better just like I had in my 08.

I ran that setup for over 100K miles on my 05 and it picked up negligible amounts of additional dirt. I do a LOT of dirt road driving.

At first I would plug the added tube, but after a while I quit. UOA and filter life never showed any issues.

I still run the "HD" CAI in my 2005 truck with the 4" opening just in front of the PS wheel well liner.

I also drive 1 mile of dirt driveway every day and have have seen no ill effects from having done so.

I ran the down tube on my 08 with NO ill effects. I wont do a 90* at the bottom facing forward as it gets too many bugs. The down tube doesn't hang below the bumper so you wont even see it unless you crawl underneath.

You can add a cleanout piece with a screw in flush mount cap at the bottom for water or very dirty roads.
