Ordered some stuff from GENOS and was looking at the fuel filter and its got me in question... .

Has anyone changed one yet?

It looks like you change out the whole filter housing... I notice it has some sort of drain and it also looks like it has a plug where a wireing harness would plug into?? Is that the "water in fuel" sensor? Does the truck tell you when it needs changed like it does the oil? IF not whats the change interval?

THANKS

Drop the housing and replace the element. Yes it has a wif sensor, and I would not go beyond 10k intervals.

Don't believe you can just get the element at this time. The procedure for changing the filter according to Dodge is to take the wheel off, take the fender liner out and change the filter. Takes about an hour, done it three times. If anyone can figure out a better way to do it, I'd sure like to hear it.

Now this has me wondering what the heck??? I ordered me three of these last week and got them in at the beginning of this week and they all came in with the aluminum housing and everything, not just the spin on part for some odd reason. Hummm?

Wonder if these have had some problem getting them to seal back up to the housing right??? I got mine for basically wholesale price but the list on these was like the 26 bucks, they just have the whole unit and its already to bolt to the block.

I was really surprized that they didn't come in as the spin-on portion only...

I didn't pull the inner fenderliner to R&R the filter on mine.

The filter is a tight fit to remove but you can take it out from the bottom of the truck or from the top. I checked it both ways just to be sure.

Up top, you will need to lay the filter sideways and from the front of the engine push the filter along the block and pass it just under the intake up close to the block. I then turn it up right and move it up high enough to fill the filter a little and then using both hands thread it on gently and snug up.

From the bottom it will come through an area right by the firewall and the insulation on it. There is an area there the filter will pass through if you hold some of the stuff there back real easy with one hand and work the filter gently with the other.

Neither of these are great places to put your arms and hands in as its really tight and sharp stuff to scrap you, but for me its still better than removing the inner liner.

Might give these a try to see if there might be a little better for you as it was for me.

It's not that big a deal to pull the inter fender out to me, if you want to do it the other way, do it. My truck is usually hot when I need to work on it, so I'm not sticking my hands and arms up next to the block. The filters are around $10 from the Dodge dealer. The parts man said they were making them cheap so maybe people would change them more often. I told him if they had left the locaton the same as the 03 - 06 5. 9 models they would probably be changed more often, he agreed.

EB,

Sure would like the filter element only part number if you have it. I just left the Dodge dealer here and they don't show a part number for the 6. 7 that is for a element only for whatever reason. Thanks

The part number on the filter I replaced was 05183410AA

If I had to guess, this to be the filter off a 5. 9 motor, but there was no such number listed on the 6. 7 as of yet, at least at the dealer I was at today. I was checking on the air filter as well for the 6. 7 and the 5. 9 will fit size wise, its just that the 6. 7 filter media is much thicker than the 5. 9 filters I checked.

That is the correct #. I have gotten them at my dealer. If your dealer says it is not listed, tell them to make some phone calls. That is the correct number. That is for the cannister and the element. I don't know of any place where you can just get the element.

The training center told us the reason they are not servicing the element only is so you throw out the gunk in the bottom of the housing with the filter. The big problem with the current design is if you just drop in another filter without cleaning the housing, you allow gunk to get on the clean (filtered) side of the system. The 6. 7 method is just about fool proof, and by far the most desired, albeit more expensive in the short term.

Has anyone heard of the availability of an auxilary fuel filter for the 6. 7L? I would like to run B20, but Dodge says you need to run an auxilary filter to do so.

I spoke to Richard at Glacier and he said one is in the works, but not available yet.

Thanks,

Brad

As it was, went to the dealer and sure enough its listed. The funny part is if they look up for a Dodge Ram HD, you get the 6800523AB number as the part, which is the housing and everything. They look under the Ram LD you find the number for the element and the canister for 10 bucks.

The guys here was just looking under the HD parts look up and whallah... I think we have this all figured out now. Great site when we can share all the info and figure this all out, if you ask me... Thanks guys

you can buy the hole thing from the dealer for under $8, so the new style is better and cheaper than the old way. Wish I could say that about everything.

good luck
