My parents picked up a new 6. 7 and it has a little over 1000 miles on it and it's almost home and the check engine light came on. It stayed on steady and then the overhead display beeped and said cansister full and catalyst stat 90%. I called the dealer and their diesel techs are off. Does it need to go into the dealer or is there a way to fix it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I had to tow it the house and Roadside towing has to come pick it up. They said it has to go to the dealer to be fixed. Sure am glad I bought my 06 now.

Yes we did, there's a few page explanation on it and we called Dave Smith to see if there was a quick fix. They asked their service tech and he said no, it had to go the the dealer. Luckily the truck made it within a mile of my house and did not break down anywhere on my parents trip.

The check engine light came on solid about 40 miles out right after it broke a 1000 miles so we called the dealer and they said keep driving unless it was flashing. The overhead flashed 90% full and then canister full within a mile of getting here. When this happened the truck starting cutting in and shut down.

The dealer told us over the phone that regeneration should happen about every 1800 miles and have not heard of anything like it. The truck was at highway speeds 95% of the trip and had very little idling. We'll see what the dealer says when they take a look at it.

I have 21700 miles on my 6. 7 now and had it to the new Dodge place I am having all my work done at now and my CEL I have been getting on and off for some time now is the EGR valve failure and that the truck had never went through a complete regen cycle as of yet... Was quite shocked to see this and it all added up to a new EGR valve and transfer tube and a host of gaskets being ordered in for mine...

I have very little faith in all this new emmission stuff they have on what was a killer I6 cylinder motor. The tech at the dealer told me that he had already seen one of the new BullyDog setups for these motors running and he was impressed with it and told me that if was his truck he would surely add this to the truck.

He also told me that he thought this BD setup allowed removal of the exhaust system and to just pipe this back up without all the Al Gore and Clinton Cloney crud they have on them... I sure hope this to be the case so that soon as I can get the new PMT setup from BullyDog, it will be a done deal on mine.

I also called and ordered me a copy of the new service manual for this truck and liked to have passed out when I found out the price on the paper version. I expected 300-350 on this sucker and I was going to buy it anyway. NOT!!!

The paper version is 450 bucks plus shipping, ouch... I didn't get the paper version with it costing that. I did get the CD version for like 144 and change, just so that I had something on this mystery motor and all the crud they have added that I will be looking into removing soon as possible. I like to hope that there will be a way to remove the EGR valve as well on this motor, let alone getting the exhaust cleaned up and back to a norm...

Please let us know what the dealer finds out as my truck is in the shop right now for the same problem. . I think mine has a bad injector but still havent heard back from the dealer yet.

The dealer says the particulate filter was full. They are having trouble getting parts and a replacement gasket that Dodge says they won't release any until June 5th. There was a regional Dodge guy in the dealership today that said this truck is one of about 60 trucks nationwide that have had this same problem this early.

He also told me that he thought this BD setup allowed removal of the exhaust system and to just pipe this back up without all the Al Gore and Clinton Cloney crud they have on them... ...

Jeb, I'm going to ask you a favor.

Please drop the political references in your engine remarks.

I am not willing to bite my tongue every time you toss some such reference into these discussions.

At the risk of offending other members, and remembering that this is NOT what we come here for, ... I'll give you a little sample of this medicine, in case you have forgotten that there is more than one side to the political spectrum.

The fact that this is a macho "TRUCK" forum does not mean that all of us see eye-to-eye on other issues, nor that we believe all other issues are secondary to "fun" with the rig.

Personally, I believe that either of the men you refer-to have many times the character of those who make up the group of power hungry, greed driven, lying, corporate-criminal chicken-hawks now "leading" this country. The pudding-proof is plentiful,... the nation is sinking in it (along with The Constitution).

Attempting to show a bit of consideration for our children's/grandchildren's environment is not a sign of idiocy. Not doing-so is.

I am amazed at the narrow perspective of those who proudly claim NOT to be "an environmentalist". I for one appreciate the efforts of the engineers who are struggling-with, rather than oblivious-to, the problem of giving us both performance AND a cleaner, healthier world.

Loud noise and smoke are not the primary measures of success(or manhood). Nor are flag decals in a truck window accurate indicators of one's "patriotism". A few more dollars spent to drive these "living-large" rigs is only a small compensation for what we do to this planet in nearly all our activities.

I apologize to all members(except Jeb) for these remarks,... and will attempt to refrain from further such comment.

Serious forum-fires often result from a few heated comments. I hope most others will join me in the "refraining" effort.

I. e. , "Please do as I say, not as I have done. " ;)

There is a flash out for about the last two weeks that helps with a rough idle and slight tweak to the regen process. If you start your 6. 7 and have a rough idle, shut it off and restart it. Get in and get the flash as soon as possible. The particulate filter can plug very rapidly, and once plugged it can't regen and must be replaced. It is a very expensive exhaust filter at that point. Parts are in short supply so you will save time by having the flash, rather than waiting for parts to show up after it's plugged.
