I have the Black Maxx from H&S. In my opinion, if you are comfortable with voiding the warranty and doing the emission deletes, you will love either the smarty, black maxx, or xrt (from H&S also).

With black maxx set on stock the truck runs much smoother and the exhaust brake works much better. At 10,000 miles my intake was disgusting from the egr, there is no way these engines will last as long as the 5. 9's do unless you free them up.

 Funny guy. . I personally like the Smarty.

Lot's of TDR members agree with your choice.

Every once in a while one of them is here whining because their engine or transmission is trashed and Dodge won't honor their (voided) warranty.

Each to his own. You are your own warranty station.

SMARTY... . My truck loves it...

MP8 graet little box for a bit of upgrade (and keep the emissions stuff on).

XRT - ate my engine ECM and left me stranded for over 1 month

Food for thought... .

Love my smarty. I am now running it on sw2, tq 4, timing 2, rp 2, vgt 4, with power puck 100% and am getting 17 miles to the gal. with no transmission slipping. feels great.

I agree wholeheartedly. I made that decision the minute I plugged in.

I have 26K on my '09 and I just can't wait any longer for the programmer and delete... Now before you hammer me, I know my warranty will be void, but I'm deploying to the sandbox soon and will put a warranty fund together.

So is it worth the money to go with a mini maxx and get the monitor or just do the Smarty Jr?? I'm a daily driver and pull a 21' Malibu boat in the summer, thats about it. I just want a little more power and better sounding truck without the regen. No racing or heavy towing. I live in KS so I'm not real worried about inspections.

Thoroughbreddiesel has delete kits... . Smarty Jr (w/ exhaust) $880. Mini Maxx (w/ exhaust and pyro) $1325.

Your thoughts and comments are welcome and appreciated!!!! Thanks guys!!

Just an update. About 2 1/2 months after this I smoked the transmission. It was 100% my fault not the programmer. I have done alot more now and if I ever get any extra money(is there such a thang) will do more. :-laf

Ruck's if you PM me I have a 6 month old MP 8 box that I will sell that is being taken off my 08 cause I am tradeing up to a 2011 .

How was the power w/ the MP 8? Also did you have anymore regens than being stock w/ the MP 8 installed, and did you have to shim the rail?

well I run it about 3/4 way and yes you can feel difference I thought it was great mpg running 70 + was a good 1-2 mpg better Yes you have to shim the rail plug but it was very easy to do took less then 1 hr

YMMV - some people blow their stuff up with Smarty, some with brand Y, and any of them can have glitches that eff up your ECU.

You're reflashing the program on the truck - heck, I work at a dealership and it's entirely possible for US to frag your ECU and leave you stranded for a month while we wait for a replacement...

That sucks. What did you do to your transmission? I've been running my Black Maxx on HOT since the beginning of August, with the Overdrive trans flash since about September iirc, and so far so good. Today I drove about 390 miles on 20 gallons, 1/2 way there was 70mph interstate with two pretty heavy thunderstorms then the return trip was mostly 55/60 mph back highway with lots of turns/35/45 mph zones and critters running out in front of me.

I've also gone sled pulling twice, first time was a 40k and the second time it was a 44k pound sled.

Apparently I'm not easy on my trans, and like I said, so far so good. I am really interested in talking to the guys at SunCoast, but $4k+ is a hefty chunk of cash to fix something that isn't broken yet...

Ok so i have a friend with an 08 i see a few of you are getting better mpg's what do you feel the best combination is for better mpg's? thats all he is after...

Best way to increase mileage? EGR/DPF delete and a programmer coupled with a light right foot. It'll make your engine/transmission last longer too.

Oh, and I too blew up my transmission, in part because I'm running a lot more power through it, but mostly because I was screwing around and did something I shouldn't have.

what programer are you thinking is the best for him?

I will jump in here now. I am using the full Smarty Programmer, but that is because the JR was not release when I bought mine.

If your friend is looking just for fuel mileage and to delete the DPF/EGR then a Smarty Jr would be his best bet. This will do all he needs to do and is cheaper then the full blown Smarty.

I am using the Smarty on CatCHER level 3, VGT,Timing, Rail pressure set to default and torque management set to 2. (nock on wood) With these settings I have not had any issues with my auto. I also pull my 5er at this level too.

I got stuck in a snow drift and just smoked the transmission. It felt fine for about 10 miles then just got worse and worse.
