Except for the dpf system I like the new features ... Exhaust brake and the new six speed auto with paddle shift..... Oh yeah the smell of my dpf actually reminds me of a propane forklift... . real clean. Not sure what regen smells like. If it is loud ,stinks ,or smokes..... I gotta have it.

The 6. 7L with the 68rfe is twice the truck of a 5. 9...

Amen!!!

"Seems as if people on this board (and others) tend to voice more complaints than praises. "

Agreed!!

"Maybe some of us should start a "Are you happy with your 6. 7L ?" thread. "

Mark me done as being ecstatic!!

Ditto... .

Couldnt be more pleased, 10K and no real problems.

I would have to say buy the truck that feels best to you and what you plan to do with it . I for one went from a first gen motor in a crewcab conversion /auto trans with 39 in tall tires and 410's to my new 08 with 68rfe and 410's and have loved every min of the 12,000 miles I have put on the truck sense Sept 15th 07 when I bought it .

I'm guessing a lot of 5. 9 owners would've never been tempted to trade up to a 6. 7 if the 68RFE were optioned into either engine size and if that transmission does get reverse engineered then 30 years from now the 5. 9/68RFE combo will still be a sought after hot item, aka late 60's early 70's muscle cars.

The G56 Ratios did change. The two transmisions are coded AD for the older version and AE for the newer Version.

The gear ratios and the angle of the shifter stub a changed with each version. The version change was in Dec '06.

AD Trans: verticle shifter stub

1st = 6. 29, 2nd = 3. 48, 3rd = 2. 10, 4th = 1. 38, 5th = 1. 0, 6th = 0. 79

AE Trans: angled shifter stub

1st = 5. 94, 2nd = 3. 28, 3rd = 1. 98, 4th = 1. 31, 5th = 1. 0, 6th = 0. 74

OD's from other trans:

G56: . 79 or . 74

NV5600: . 73

NV4500: . 75

AISIN 68RC: . 77 (5TH) AND . 63 (6TH)

68RFE: . 81 (5th) and . 62 (6th)

48RE: . 69

info is from the klenger gear chart
