Newbie here I hope this is the right location for this type of thread.

Never owned a diesel before until June 1st 2007, but I have worked/driven Fords and Dodge 5. 9L diesels that belong to freinds and family helping them with various repairs and add-ons.

I can see that the 6. 7L will be a challenge for us all, and I am currently playing catch-up.

I am trying to install gages on this engine and truck, and found that the boost bolt that came with the kit measures . 875" inches long. That is from the base of the head to the end of the threaded shank. I checked in on some of the other types that are being offered and all are with in . 100" of each other. These bolts only allows a few threads to be engaged in the manifold, should be at least a bolt diameter of engagement for the threads and torque. Torque is only 12 Foot Pounds with the Boost Bolts. The boost bolts are for the inside/inboard row for the intake. The forward most bolt is the most accessable with the EGR tube shroud removed, next would be the bolt aft, at or about #2 injector, as long as the hex portion is not much

over . 500" inches in diameter and . 750" in heigth, which will require some creative thinking/tools in how to torque this bolt at this location, getting around the rail and injector lines.

The 6. 7L intake/spacer/maniflod stack-up requires a bolt SHANK length of 1. 200"-1. 250", I was unable to locate a boost bolt that was of the proper length for this stack-up, and I will have to have one milled for this/my application.

I have passed this information on to a few companies that supply boost/gauge kits, so they can properly suppy for the 6. 7L engines.

As for the fuel pressure gauge/isolator, I have some fittings and 1/2 fuel line on order. Pyro not installed or drilled yet. Play time has been short resently.

Sorry no pics yet.

Hopes this information helps!

More to come as I dig.

301 miles so far.

First oil/oil filter/fuel filer change 254 miles, running Delo 400LE/Fleetguard Premium filters. No fuel adds.

Thanks

Welcome to the TDR.

It's interesting that the bolt shank is so short. I wonder if it's the same (runs short) on the 5. 9L?

My Question is why use an analog gauge when you can tap into the MAP sensor and receive the same information the ECM is getting.

Just a guess, but you would be limited to the pressure range of the factory sensor. About 42 psi on a 5. 9L not sure on the 6. 7L.

If you modify a 5. 9L 42 psi is not that high of a number and 60psi analog gauges are typically recommended.

I like the look, and I didn't what to use the factory senors at this time. I do have a Recon for the truck and decided I like the analogs on the triple pillar mount better. Have a buddy running a Quad on his and he loves it.

Have been looking over the performance of the engine at various speeds and at idle and I guess that is why I choose analog's, the others will work fine as well. Waiting to see what will come of upgrades and performance numbers for our trucks.

In time hope to be getting more from this 6. 7L

Will have to post some live data/numbers/info in the Tech section, taken from my truck's systems. Right now I have a Innova 3130 Scan Tool works pretty good for now. Would like to checkout Insight, will see.
