V8 gasser?????

This isn't what I expected for milage. My old 96 junker gets 16-17 around town with a load of tools and 35 inch tires. I expect 19- 20 mpg on a new one with stock tires. The plain old v8 gasser is looking better every day.

Wow, I'm shocked that anyone driving a Cummins would suggest something like that! My Grandmother drived a 2004 Ram 2500 HEMI automatic trans, I have a 2005 2500 Cummins 6-spd, I can pull her 36' gooseneck horse trailer on the interstate and get 13-15 depending on load, speed and whether or not I am in the hills. She is happy to get 11mpg EMPTY on the interstate and gets a whopping 10mpg OR LESS with that "V8 gasser". Not to mention that if she encounters a hill or accelerates onto the interstate from an on ramp or tries to pass, anything requiring an increase in power... that hemi downshifts and revs up through the roof to get that truck and trailer moving. I have rarely had to down shift unless I got caught going uphill with a load and suddenly needed to speed up or pass, then I have to downshift.

There is NO comparison in my mind, V8 gasser or Diesel. I have a harder time picking out my socks in the morning than I would have deciding the powerplant in my next truck! Atleast thats my $. 10 worth.

Amen... .....

I also agree with the desire for higher gears, like a 3. 54, or even a 3. 42 now that the manual has a lower OD. Heck, driveline vibrations would be down, and less revs per mile would make stuff last longer.

And to comment on the reason for this topic... ..... It sounds like the 6. 7/auto is delivering the goods mileage wise. Whenever I hook my trailer on the truck, I just figure on 10 mpg. Then again my truck and trailer is almost 15,000# empty..... I hope to continue to hear good things about the 6. 7 and newer transmissions.

It would seem that some people are shocked easily ;)
