Attention: TDR Forum Junkies There is no oil change schedule for the 6. 7L engine. The computer display will indicate when an oil change is required.
At 2500 miles, the computer display on my new 2007. 5 Dodge Ram said “Oil Change Required”. My first reaction was, it can’t be correct.
I called my dealer to tell them what was happening. The dealer service department agreed, it can’t be correct. They told me to reset the computer display and get my oil changed at 7,500 miles.
As a former DaimlerChrysler employee, I contacted a DC engineer involved with the 6. 7L Cummins to confirm those instructions. He said that DC thought that Cummins was adding the oil change calculation feature in 2008. Instead, it is on the 2007. 5 Rams with the 6. 7L Cummins. He told me to go ahead and have the oil changed now. The truck computer will calculate when an oil change is required based on the type of driving I have done since the last oil change. This is necessary to protect the emission equipment. He thought the oil change was indicated at 2,500 mile because the truck was new and I had towed some of those miles.
I telephoned my dealer for an appointment to change the oil. I told the write-up person what I had been told and advised him a TSB was being prepared.
So, if your 2007. 5 truck’s computer tells you it is time for an oil change, it is. Fred
