Is Shell Rotella T 15W-40 an acceptable oil for the new 6. 7L engine? I have been told that its not because it does not carry the API CJ4 specification. Can anyone tell me if Dodge or Cummins specifies that the API must be CJ4? Thanks!
In your owners manual the book states that you must use API CJ-4 certified engine oils. The book goes on to say that you must use an oil meeting the Chrysler Material Standards MS-10902 and or Cummins Material Standards CES 20081. Any oil meeting one of these standards can be used. Look on the back of the oil container and see if Shell Rotella T meets one of these standards. You can then use it.
The owners manual has a lot of information for us to use when operating our trucks.
I have been using rotella 15w40 triple protection and it meets cj4 requirements. As a winter oil I found valvoline premium blue severe service 5w40 which also meets cj4 standards.
If it does not have a CJ-4 seal on the bottle, I would not use it, JMHO. For the record, I use Mobil Delvac 1 on 10,000 km changes. I may switch it to Amsoil as there were back order issues with Delvac, last summer.
Amsoil Marine Diesel oil is not CJ-4 compliant. Either Amsoil Premium API CJ-4 5w-40 or 15w-40 Diesel Oil is the stuff to use in a Dodge 6. 7 L Cummins.
