Guys;

I got someone who's looking for a six inch :eek: exhaust. The closest I could find was a 5" via Stans Headers. Does anyone know of a 6" system offered? Or is 6" just way to huge?

Thanks;

Josiah

Too big......

The down pipe would never fit between the frame and the transmision. From there back I suppose anyhting is game. Seems like a waste though.

get your hands on a few 12" sections of 3. 5", 4" 5" and 6". then you can show buddy that 6" is way overkill. . i'd go with the 5". i have 4" on my tahoe now, and it looks small to me :(, but every ricer i see thinks the 4" turn down tip is HUGE :) and yes, usually i have the louder exhaust. . :D horney mosquitos in a coffee can@ 7500rpm vs my hoe and her 8 holes o' fun @ 3600rpm. fun to compare. . :D;)

At the plant we upgraded the exhaust on the emergency diesels for more power. We went from a small 14" to a good size 18" exhaust. All stainless, the mufflers have thier own poured concrete foundation. I believe the BECHTEL fitters did the work. May be out of your price range though. if memory serves about $600,000. In all things be reasonable. The back pressure is propotional to the square of the fluids velocity (more or less) so 3" pipe flowing X CFM has say 90"H2O of back pressure( this is for a baseline). Step up to a 4" -the area goes up by a factor of 1. 77 and the velocity drops that much so now you are down to around 28" backpressure. Thats good all for around 450$. Go to 5" and the area is even bigger and now you are down to 12" back pressure. Some custom fabrication and added weight and much higher cost. Lets look at 6" down to 5. 5" bakcpressure. The power gained on that small of a change will most likely not be enough to accelerate that weight of piping so the truck will be slower. And I think the power gains are already gained, other things will limit you ( turbine housing, elbows etc). But if you want 6" dual chromed stacks coming from the bed thats great. Just don't expect any power over a well done 4".

I remembered reading (On here i think) about tests that were done and it was determined that any bigger then 4" after the muffler (Or Downpipe) will do nothing for performance. 5" is too big on an ISB, a good 4" is all you could need. Unless you have some massively redone engine. I have to agree though, 6" stacks would look SICK

Back before I bought my CTD (before I even considered it) I was running around town one day when I glanced over at the local Dodge Stealership as I went by. Nice, new, white Std. Cab 2500 4x4 on 35" BFG MT's compliments of Skyjacker.

Cool, gotta check that out later I made a mental note of. That night on my way home I stopped at the dealer and started looking it over. "MAN nice truck, 3/4 Ton, Cummins, 5spd, 35 BFG Muds... ... . wonder if its dualed out?" Went to the passenger side rear tire and stuck my head underneath to almost stick it in a 5. 5" pipe! :--)

2 of them to be exact!! (It was dualed!:-laf ) Stopped by the stealer the next day, just had to know what was up with this one. It was the ever famous injector pump! He had been bombing and the pump went out. His bombing voided his warrenty (not sure what bombs, I was just told it was modified) and ended up costing him like $2100+ :eek: :{

save the 5" tubing for the outlet...

4" from the turbo back, and, if ya wanna, go for a 5" outlet. plumbing stays manageable, gasses flow easy, and the 5" illusion is still there.

Does anyone really need 600hp? :p As long as its 4wd I think you can fit 6 inch from the crossmember back, if the guy is willin to pay for the work why not give it a shot. Oo.

For shock value only

6" is da bomb. While mine isn't a true 6" system, it goes from 4" to the BD brake to 5" through the bed to a 6" stack.

if the guy wants a chrome plated 18" double walled culvert pipe in on or under his truck then WOO HOO more power to him,... ... ... ... and to his check book:D

6" could be a benefit, if...

I have a 5" that I fabbed up for my 2wd and it cleared the axle just fine. 5" looks awesome, just the right size IMO. Now 4" exhausts look a bit wimpy!

6" is overkill IMO, however, when I set my High Idle to 1500rpm and then go stand by the tailpipe, there is a ton of air rushing out at a considerable velocity, even from that huge pipe. From that you could almost surmise a 6" system COULD be beneficial on an extremely BOMBed B-series (given it has at least an HX40 or B1 turbo & head porting, etc. etc. in addition to massive fueling).

Now that's funny. I work for Bechtel and most people have never heard of them. Not a pipe fitter though. :cool:
