Rear driveshaft 2 Piece precision (takes 3) Precision #351

Front driveshaft Cardan H joint (takes 2) Precision #232

Front driveshaft @ front axle (takes 1) Precision #235

Front Axle U joints LEFT AND RIGHT (takes 2) #464

All the U Joints listed above are PRECISION brand and are GREASABLE!! Oo.

Precision can be had at your local NAPA auto parts or online at napaautoparts.com or rockauto.com (ROCK AUTO IS WAY CHEAPER!)

NAPA no longer carries the Precision 351 around here, it's now the 230-0188 NAPA joint. Beyond that, If I'm not mistaken, the old 1480 joint has the same overall critical dimensions.

Has anybody tried the 1480 in a Dodge?

Wow! Finally an answer to the front axle u-joints. I hunted and hunted back in the spring when I needed one and could only get the dealer part.

Have you actually put one of these in Williams? Just wondering if it really fits. I have experience with the Precision 351 and it goes right in.

No, I have not.

But, 2 different web pages that sell U joints online referred me to that number.

I went ahead and ordered 2. I will know Monday or so if they work, we will be changing out Ball joints.

also, I took off the front driveshaft (experiment not failure) and noticed the double joint is Spicer, and it is super smooth, the front one is AAM and is much stiffer, but not damaged. So I would be inclined to use Spicers when my U joints go, grease fittings or not. I wonder if you get a chance to compare Precision with Spicer for feel. A freer joint will run cooler and last longer, as long as it's not getting rusted out.

I bought a joint from AutoZone that was supposed to be a direct cross match from the Dodge part number, but it would not fit in the front axle. Luckily I had bought the Dodge joint too, just in case the other would not fit. I'd recommend having a Dodge joint on hand when you tear your truck down.

Front driveshaft, front U-Joint

Looking at the front driveshaft (just looking, no problem) how do you remove/replace the front u-joint on the front drive shaft? Are those small pins holding it in place?

it probably is a plastic injected retaining ring. . to get them off, you need a press to break the plastic or a torch [propane will do] and heat it up until the plastic melted snake comes out then hammer them out on a vice...

Nick,

Then how do you put a new one in? Why isn't it just a normal joint arrangement? I like things simple... this doesn't look simple.

Thanks,

Mickey

Guys,

We installed the 464's and they are an absolute perfect fit and match in size.

But whats nice about these; they look beefier and are greasable.

Good good good!!! Oo.

Another problem solved!

I havent tried the new style 351's that I now have.

With the first set, yes I had to grind the caps.

I would much rather grind some caps then spend 100 bux a U joint.

The 351's on rock auto are 13 BUX EACH!!
