anyone else having problems with nv5600 trans. extremly hard to get into 1st and 2nd and rev. sometimes hard to go 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th. occ. grind 6th down to 5th. and the dealer couldnot dup. problem. so i drove their mech around for about 10 mins. and he agreed there is a problem.

they call 5 star said it was the clutch, replaced that. didnot help. so they rebuild the trans. worst now than ever. they claim that this is normal? and now it grinds going into second. :mad

any one else having the same problem or any ideas how to get chrys to correct? truck has 38000 miles on it and first trans problem at 4000miles. dealer has been working on it since 34000 .

That is not normal. . When mine was new on cold mornings I got a tiny grind going into 3rd but it went away at 5kmi and never happened after driving a few miles. I could stop it by pressing the clutch to the floor.

Any noise from the transmission at 38k has to be a BAD thing.

You need to ask the dealer if they replaced your clutch slave cylinder. This item has been updated. Seems there is an internal piece which can break without driver knowing it until the clutch goes.

Have you tried shifting without the clutch; speed matching the engine rpms to road speed? accelerated to 2200+ rpm's then let off fuel and pull gear shift at the same time, then as engine rpm's fall, engage next higher gear as the engine speed matches the road speed for that gear. Takes a little practice, but makes gear swapping real sweet when mastered. Same technique as class 8 tractors. :p

6 spd trans

I have 99 6spd and have also noiticed small grind from time to time down shifting 6 to 5 and hard shift to 1 allways from stand still not much problem with rev. Some times grinds bad shifting into any gear most times I found i was not pushing clutch all the way down to floor my fault. One last note power shift w/o clutch is bad idea in my opinion. Class eight trucks don't have syncros to burn up and they general take that kind of abuse better.

My first 99 did the same thing

My first truck 99 would do the same thing, dealer could not fix it so the replaced my truck with the exact same truck but with a 5spd. :D I like the 5spd better than the 6spd it was a lot easier to shift when new and now with 60k + miles on it you can shift with your pinky fingure. :)

If you can't get it right in 5 your really screwed with 6. :-laf

I have a 2001 6-speed truck with 28,000 miles on it, having gotten the truck new in June of 2001. Intermittently, and ever since I have had it, I have had problems with getting into gear at a stop.

I am well familiar with all the tricks to get a truck or tractor transmission into gear when something is still coasting or it has come to rest in an inopportune position. Try a different gear, let the clutch out a bit, allow the input shaft to stop again, and so on. I know how to do these things and why they work.

It is apparent to me that there are times when the clutch either won't disengage, or the pilot bearing is dragging, causing the input shaft to continue turning. It is a lucky thing that every gear in these things is synchronized, or you might not get it in.

Usually, after getting it in OK a few times in a row, it will be fine. There are a few times it does not matter, and that certainly verifies that the clutch is not stopping.

I would have taken it in by now, but it does not do it enough that I felt it would do it when the dealer had it.

Is anyone seeing any problem with clutch slave cylinders and their hydraulic circuits? Have there been many or any pilot bearing problems?
