6 speed idea

Hi



I run 2 trucks for work, one has 4:10 ratio the other 3:55. I like the 4:10 for big loads and work but dislike it for empty trialers or no trailers at all. The 3:55 is just too high for the big loads. Heres my question. Can you take a 6 speed and regear it to have 5 speed grear ratios then add another OD gear ( higher ) in the sixth gear hole ? With 4:10 ratios i think this would make a nice combo for work or running around empty. What do you think ?

Or bolt a overdrive unit to the end of it and have 12 foward gears

just get a gear vendor that will solve you problem i have the 3. 73's which are perfect

Two ideas:



1) Change the axle ratios to something in the low 3. xx's and curuise around empty in 6th gear, and tow in 5th.



2) A transfer case with two speeds that are much closer than the 4H and 4L that they have now. Use the H setting for traveling empty and the L setting for towing.



I think the 1st idea is doable with off the shelf parts, the 2nd one is obviously not.
