Greetings this evening, I hate to be a bother especially on this subject but after doing several searches on the subject on a couple of different forums I am more confused than ever. I own a 2001 ho with manual 6 speed ETH/DEE witch is the proper synthetic lube? Any and all help is sincerely appreciated.

thanks doc Nielsen

Depends on who you ask. Dodge puts their opinion right on the side of the transmission. There is a sticker there that threatens voided warranties and possible global warming if their specified lube isn't used.

People here have used everything from Amsoil engine oil to a Redline gear lube to Royal Purple Synchromax.

You'll most likely get a bunch of opinions, so I might as well get mine in at the start. Keep in mind that my transmission is out of warranty so your situation may be different, but I'm running the Royal Purple Synchromax. I started using it in hopes of better shift quality and it does *seem* to shift better, but it is also entirely possible that it is just me wanting to validate the $$ for the RP to myself (not that the factory fill would be any cheaper).

Good Luck,

Mike

i changed mine at 40000k and installed amsoil series 3000 5w30 synthetic. it shifted very poorly hot and cold and i took it out after only 2000 miles. installed the mopar stuff and it is much much better. maybe it is just my transmission, i don not know. other people are having great luck and shifts with the amsoil. hope this helps

The Mopar fluid would have been alot more expensive than the RP Synchromax. That's not even fair to put the two close in price.

I haven't checked recently, but the diffenece was about 12-15 dollars per quart higher for the Mopar stuff.

I paid $2. 70/quart for the Mopar(Texaco) trans fluid. Bought a 5 gallon bucket from a Texaco distributor. Cost me $54 delivered to my door.
