I drive a big rig w/10spd at work everyday and when I go home, I just want to put it in D and relax. I have a D/A w/drw now, but just ordered a new 600, 3500 srw. I carry a 10`caribou and pull 4200# jet boat or pull 3 atv`s on a trailer about 15 times a year. Hope the 48re holds up. Sure will miss the allison. Wish the 600 was sitting in my garage right now. I drove a 2004. 0 HO with 48RE and 6 Spd. There is just more punch with the stick vs auto, at least as judged by my seat-of-the-pants-o-mometer. The same was true when I bought my old truck. Yes, there are times I get tired of shifting in downtown type traffic. But driving the truck empty and just pushing on the go pedal produced more go. JMHO. Reliability is another issue. The 6spd is a well proven box and a joy to drive. The 48RE is still new enough to have some questions about it in my mind. The cost difference new is about $600, which will buy other goodies
