Hey all-

Just wondering if someone with a 6-speed could please give me the measurement of there front drive shaft? I am doing a 5. 9/NV5600 conversion into my GMC and am also swapping a Dodge Dana60 into it. I now have my engine mounts done so there for the T-case is where its going to be but I have to locate the front axle therefore I need the driveshaft length. Could someone please be kind enough to get this measurement for me.....

Thanks in advance... . Ryan

Ryan, I measure 36 inches from the center of the u-joint bearing cap at the front diff to the flat face where you bolt the C-V joint to at the front of the transfer case..... Good luck , Jim

Ryan,

Be careful about using that measurement from a Dodge. There is nothing guaranteeing that your engine/transmission/transfer case will be the same distance fore and aft from your front axle. You may have a little latitude in where you place the engine fore and aft, but you'll need to get your engine/trans/TC bolted in place, as well as the front axle, then measure for your drive shaft lengths to be sure that the lengths are correct. If you use the standard length from a Dodge, you will most likely find that it will be incorrect in the GMC resulting in having to get the shaft reworked again. :{

Thanks Guys-

Reason me wanting the measurements now is like you said about the engine/trany/t-case being fixed like it is now I just have to decide where to put the front axle. I have a few inches of movement in the placement so I can put it where ever I want but I would like to make the stock shaft work!

I am using the Dodge 60 and just got bran new track bars off a new 2005 Ford F350 that I will be using and just have to make up the mounts on the axle. I tried using the dodge 4-link system but it just didn't turn out how I wanted it. By using the ford system on my suspension it gives me a very clean and simple look and lots of ground clearance.

Thanks again... Ryan

Personally, I'd set the front axles location and spend the few bucks to have the driveshaft re-tubed/shortened to the correct length. IMO there are too many more important variables to let the small cost of the driveshaft work take priority.
