Just noticed during my last oil change I have a oil film around the rear tail housing. Suspect seal is starting to leak but not enough to even make a drip yet. Is this seal easy to change, just like any other rear trany seal, anything I should be aware of when I need to do this. By the way I am using Amsoil 30W. Anyone ever find a source for the Pennsoil that can be LEGALLY used in this transmission or should I stick to the Amsoil.

Bob, the seal is easy to change, drop the driveshaft, pop the old off, tap the new one on. Can't comment on the Amsoil, haven't used it in the 6 speed.

Is there any oil residue on the underside of the floorboard or the frame, like it's flinging oil?

Bob , I did that job a couple years back and it hasn't leaked again yet. Get youself the workshop manual and buy 2 of the rear transmission seals and 2 of the transfer case front seals . As long as you're in there , you may as well do both . They're easy to damage and if you don't , you can return them when you're done . It will take you most of the day . Good luck .

Fred, no oil on underside of floor board, etc. mostly like an oil mist just on tail housing. Heck for all I know it could be from the pill bottle. Got to get around to relocating that thing or extending the hose down and get rid of the pill bottle. I probably should just watch this until it gets a little worse before doing it. Not need help but thanks for the offer it is sincerely appreciated. I have done seal like this before with no problem and don't anticipate any here. At one time some claimed Amsoil caused seals to leak. I don't know this is the case or it is because I have 96,000 miles on it at this time and it is just time.
