Ok, I have not personally experienced this, but my father who mainly drives the truck said that it will pop out of second gear while he is driving. We have had the truck about two weeks and it has occurred about five times now. He said it does so rather violently. The truck has around 58,000 miles. Is there stil a warrenty in place on the transmission? Any ideas on what it could be?

6 speed popping out of gear

If you've got the 7/70 powertrain warranty I would say "YES" you should be covered for repairs to it.

Sorry about the problems "it can be a pain in the arse"

I've been lucky so far with mine (knocking on wood here)

I would take it to the dealer and let them check it out.

Not sure what it could be. Others will pipe in here to let you know.

Thanks for the advice... I just don't want to take it to a dealer yet because I have the Gear Vendor on the truck. Also, the last time this happened to one of my trucks (a POS 1992 F-150) the transmission had to be totally rebuilt, or so they said. Let me know if you guys know what it is! Thanks

Maybe try to find a real gentle way to determine whether it really was IN gear before it popped out. Sometimes with mine I'm not sure by the first feel of it and take a second to make sure.

Maybe it's just part of the driver break-in period.

Sounds like a syncro, that will cause that. Take it back and get it done, they should not give you to much problem. Have mine in shop now broke a roll pin off on the cross shaft whole thing has to come apart for a 10 cent piece.

Ok, thanks for all the responses. Like I said I have not experienced it personally, so maybe my father is just not getting it all the way into 2nd gear occasionally. Otherwise, its probably a syncro? Any idea on cost with labor? Thanks again, JOE

6 speed

Joe,

Why don't you take it for a spin to see what's going on with it ,that way you'll know for sure what the deal is.

As far as labor and parts cost are concerned I would think it should be under warranty:confused:

I agree with Mike on the synchro's being the problem.

Could it maybe something in the shift linkage/tower assy. that's not letting it go into that particular gear all the way?Say a shift fork/collar?

Let us know please.

Phil

well i'd love to, but the truck is in Michigan right now with my father on business... it'll be home Sunday or Monday. Tuesday we'll be taking it to PA (about a 4 hour trip) and probably towing about 7,000lbs so that should be a good trial run. I'll let you guys know all the details when I get back toward the end of next week. You don't think the Gear Vendor will void the warrenty?
