Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) clutch problems

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have been a die hard DC supporter and even more so for a CTD. However, it has been one of those months that really has gotten me down. Two weeks ago the 5600 clutch blew up. The truck is all stock with 140k on her. I accepted the fact that the clutch went out when I continually have 2000-2500# of H2O on the back for cattle and when I am pulling a trailer, easily 25K. I put in a new clutch/pressure plate, pilot bearing and throw out bearing. Ran great for 500 miles and driving empty down the HWY at 65MPH the clutch blew out again. I am not saying that the mechanic who helped me do this transmission rebuild and I should be on Jeff Gordon's pit crew, but I know we aren't morons. Any suggestions on what could have happened. All parts were DC because of availabilty and the fact that I get them at cost. This would not have been as bad if my '92 CTD hadn't #$@ out on me the week before with what I believe is a injection pump timing issue. (Have you ever seen a grown man cry!!!) Let me know what you think as I will be drinking away my sorrows this afternoon before I attack this. I AM DRIVING A 2500 V8 5-SPEED FOR NOW GUYS!!!!!

Clark,

Can you post pictures of the clutch disc(s)? This would give us a chance to comment better. Or send me a PM and we can get on the phone.

You don't have to be a moron to improperly install a clutch. Lots of very smart people aren't able to do it.

It sound like this is more a problem with the clutch and not with the 5600 itself. And you DID get 140K of HARD use out of the stock clutch-- not bad at all.

Fix your installation error and you should be just fine.

I'd recommend a beefier pilot bearing from Quad 4x4 (www.quad4x4.com)
