6 speed syncro problems-I need help

I did the impossible! I tore up the NV5600. The transmission started grinding shifting into 6th. I toke it to the dealer/warrant providor. 6th gear syncro is out of it. As of today, the dealer has replaced the parts, reassembled the transmission, and the problem still exists. The tech is currently tearing the transmission apart again and SHIMMING(?) the synchronizer. I consider myself pretty mechanically inclined but I am no mechanic. My question to those of you who are mechanics... is this an acceptable solution to the problem because frankly I'm not to comfortable with the whole situation.

shimming the synchros should get the shift coller up so speed quicker to have the speeds matched to get the coller to slip over the splines to engage the gears. it seems like the logical thing to do.

It turned out to be the 5th gear synchro that made the 6th gear grind. ?
