6 Speed Trans

I have 6 speed trans, at about 60mph and above it has a humming noise. I just got back from dealer, tech hears noise but don't know what it is. Did anyone have this problem and what is the cure?

That's the problem with the quieter trucks.

It's probably just normal differential noise. There were earlier posts where people tried multiple rear-ends and couldn't make the problem go away. American Axle released a statement that it wouldn't be detrimental to the lifespan/longevity. Just be sure your fluids are good, and ride with it.



Some people are experimenting with angles (changing via shims), but this is mostly to eliminate vibrations. It's also possible you're hearing tire noise, but I think this is more prevelant in the duallys.

i hear gear whine in my 1500 gasser in 1-3 and 5. 4'th is nice and quiet, but i really need to listen to hear the whine in the gears. radio on and can't hear it anymore.



get a good CD in the player and turn the radio up louder :-laf



OR



open passenger side window and listen to the exhaust. my truck sounds pretty good when pulling +5k rpm [feels like a sports car, well sorta anyways]

Damn gassers, having to turn that kind of RPM just to get out of their own way: No wonder they don't get anything for gas mileage!!!

I test drove 3 3500 SRW's yesterday. One had the whine, the other 2 did not.

i know how to drive 2 ways with my truck, baby it mode. drive around by granny shifting well before 2k [still use to my old diesel i guess] and road rage mode. all you see is red and that right foot becomes real heavy. not much torque in that 4. 7 under 2k [especially when in 5th going 60kph/±40mph turning ±1100rpm] but it will hit 100kph/62mph real quick with wot 2nd gear too many rpm to deal with. i need to get back into a diesel so i can get back use to 3000 rpm being a lot
