Does anyone know what is up with the 6 speed? I have ben looking at new 05's and today we priced out one and it wouldn't let you select a 6 speed. The salesman thought that was odd because he had speced one yesterday. So he went to the DC dealer news page and low and behold all 6 speeds are on hold. Anyone know what the problem is? Todd

I had the same experiance today. Dealer called DC to see what was up. He was told indefinate hold. Might be a week might be the remainder of the '05 build. In other words he didn't get a straight answer.

Looks like Chrysler didn't have enough of them in stock... Not available until sometime in April or later...

Oh well, looks like I will have to wait a little while then. I can't find any 05 3500 sports with a 6speed in stock anywhere. Todd

Hmmm, maybe the G56 couldn't be built and shipped fast enough. Hope that teaches DC not to try to foist the off-shore MB engines on us. Cummins delivers right on time, with the right product, and a good price.

Bummer about 6 speeds. No 6 speed = no truck for some of us, including me. Maybe they will put the NV5600 in; I'll bet NV can supply them Oo.

Don't think so, Joseph. The contract with New Venture was cancelled, and the NV plant that made the NV5600 has retooled up to supply trannies to GM, I think. Chrysler is committed to this transmission, for the near future. Right now it's a supply problem...

Joe I agree

I seem to remember in late 2003 when I ordered mine, that the NV5600 was also unavailable because of a supply shortage. Luckily my order made it through, but they were on hold for a few weeks in Dec 03/Jan 04.

I think this is just a way to get us dealers to order autos...

Just like when they restricted cloth interior on minivans, HONESTLY, how do you run out of cloth int. ?? - its the most common, duh!

I give it 3 weeks, if that

tomeygun or whoever, what is the code for the G56? Is it DEG? My dealer found me one and is having it shipped in for me early next week.

Do a search on this and you'll find a lot of info... . Basically, the G-56 is new to the CTD. The design comes from Mercedes Benz. There hasn't been a lot of "real" feedback yet, as it was just introduced after the first of the year. There has been more comments about the "dual mass flywheel" (DMF). It doesn't have a good rep with other brand trucks, but again, time will tell. Peter, at Southbend, has taken a look at it and says his initial impression is that it appears to be better then the others he has seen, but he sounds like he is not a fan of DMF's either. He should be elated as he should do a lot of business if it proves to be less then parr... :D

When did DC change over to the G56? I test drove a 05 3500 today with a NV5600. Todd

The change over occurred in mid to late January 2005. Many dealers still have the earlier 05's in stock and you must have driven one of those. In many parts of the Country manual trannies aren't that common and therefore you don't see a lot of them. As I said in another thread, my 2005 is "scheduled" (take that with a grain of salt) to arrive at the local rail yard tomorrow. This will be the first G-56 equipped CTD that my dealer has seen... . ;)
