Sorry if this is a repeat... . I tried to figure out how to search on this website ... without any luck.

I'm trying to get my spec's in order for purchase of a new 3500 SLT LWB QC CTD dually. I tow a lot and want a 6-speed manual. On the Dodge website, they show a 6-speed and a Heavy Duty 6-speed.

Can any of you explain the differences and strengths of these two transmissions? I tow a 11,500# 5'ver (2,000# pin weight)... and will add another 1,000# transfer fuel tank in the bed of the truck.

(I tried the local Dodge boys, but they don't have a salesman who speaks diesel. Can any of you recommend a salesman in the Tampa, FL, area, that knows his way around diesels? I'd be much happier dealing with a guy who understands that CTD beast. )

Again, sorry if this is plowing old ground... .

I believe one is the NVG5600 and the other is the G56. I think their website needs updated, the 5600 is no longer available. the G56 is the only 6 spd available now.

I think the website is screwed up ;) The standard 6 speed is the gasser trans, the HD 6 speed is the diesel trans. I think when you order the diesel it automatically options the HD trans with no other manual trans options.

FloridaEd, I'd go all the way to St Louis and see TommyGun. He knows diesels and you will get a great price. It would be worth the trip. The G56 is your only choice and as far as I know is a good 6-speed transmission. Good luck. :) Grizzly

6 speed HD

I figured from reading the post that a G56 with revers on the right and up would be fairly easy to deffer from the NV5600 with the cast iron casing and reverse at a different place. Just yesterday I was looking at a new 2005 on the dealers lot. The option list showed Heavy duty 6 speed transmission with

1100. 00$ extra. The transmission was made of aluminum and the reverse was at the right toward and up. What am I missing here? Was I looking at a G56?
