Grenaded my 6 speed today outside Barstow Cali. , who have you guys used for replacements? just towing along at 70 MPH with a 48'HC and BOOM, thought something was going to come up through the floor and get me!!! Seems 5600's are hard to come by for whatever reason, so my buddy will pull it tomorrrow ( hopefully) and see what I frigged up this time. It has 128. 5k on it with regular fluid changes. And yes the guy with the duramax saved my sorry behind again.

I don't know what a 48'HC is, but it sounds big. I'd check with Standard Transmission in Ft Worth TX. http://www.standardtransmission.com/

Going to call them along with Blumenthals this morning and see what they have, hopefully something, need my rig back on the road making $$$$$$, not sucking $$$$$$$$ up !!!!! 48' HC= 48'x9. 5' high ocean containers!! aluminum ones weigh 8600-9200#, been pulling those out of the L. A. ports up to Pahrump Nv. the past 2 weeks, was going to go to May Madness next week with one.

So if New Venture doesn't make them anymore, who makes simular replacement units?

Also, Anyone have ideas on how to beaf these things up? What about upgrades to synco's to allow for faster shifts with heavier clutches like the ConFE?

So Jason, am I going to have problems when I put my Con FE in with the replacement transmission ??

Go with Blumenthals! I have done a some business with them and have nothing but good to say! Great product, great service!! I have used some other big name gearbox companies and they cant come close to how I got treated by Blumenthals.

If you do member search for Brayden he hsa a really slick set up for putting an allison 1000 in your truck. I was going to do it on my 03 but wound up selling the truck and bought the 06 with the 48re.

I never had problems getting her to shift when I had my FE.

I'm told it's the added weight on the FE clutch disc vs. the weight of hte stock disc. The stocker is lighter, thus allowing the synco so slow the clutch disc down fast enought for fast shifts. . It works fine if you give things an extra 1 count, But in a 1/4 mile race, that 1 counts are going to lose some ET's big time.

Things are starting to get a little better, I installed the heavy duty master/slave to make sure the pressure plate was fully releasing the clutch disc.

I have 550miles or so on this new ConFE and it holds just perfect. The grabby nees is easyly managed once your used to it.

But I have NOT been able to grab 3rd, 4th or 5th with any decent rate of speed when I wanna move fast, I can always grab 6th in a flash like I always did with the old clutch.

As the guys said before, The auto's are faster then the manuals. Yep, at this point in my experience I'll have to take back what I said about htat being wrong when it comes to a SBC ConFE as your clutch, With the stocker clutch and same fly wheel HP, No auto will come close to me driving my manual. But when I have to add almost 2 full seconds of time for shifting durning a 1/4 mile cuz the trans can't sync up quick enough. What's the point?

Maybe something with the same weight clutch disc + a pressure plate near 4000#'s would provide the necessay holding power and fast shifting (so long as you can press that clutch in fast enough) and row the gears quickly and sustaning 600hp at the wheels. who knows.

Maybe I need more time to break in things and re-train the transmission's synco's.

Then again, how likly could a new piolot barring, in the plastic package the enire time be bad? Would the Heavy duty one be better for this case? (dispite the need to machine the flywheel)?

I can tell you that the SBC Organic DD will let you bang gears pretty quickly. Maybe not as fast as stock, but I've never heard a grind or had a hangup while shifting quicky. It'll bite and chirp any gear, too.

hmmm, I wish I drove other trucks around as apposed to taking other peoples words for it.

But, going back on that weight of the clutch disc thing, a DD would be, well, twice as much as my single (stock single). I had both discs in hand, and well, the SBC did feel a little heavier, but not that much. So logicaly thinking, I should beable to shift faster then you so long as anything else wasn't broke on my end.

hmmmm

Update

... picked up trans first thing yesterday morning, hightailed it to my buddy's shop and drove it out at 130 PM. How smooth and quiet the thing is, gotta wonder if there wasn't something going on for a while before it let go. What have you guys noticed in pedal effort after installing your Con FE?

Peddle a bit heavier, but nothing to bad. Enough to make your leg hurt till you get used to it. The Heavy duty hydrolics help with adjustability. VERY easy to install. like less then 2 hours and 2 drilled holes in the firewall. I'm sure it's nothing but the master cylinder is not "tight" in the firewall.

You'll see the grabbyness kick in at about 100-150 miles.

transmission (59,000 miles old transmission) got notchy with the shifts. But feels strong. My truck is getting easier to drive every day it's driven.

Then you have the incessant right turn while walking :-laf

What are you saying, JApol? I always walked in circles, even before the clutch went in. Mark, I only notice it when I am in rush hour traffic, 1st to 2nd gear every ten seconds for 3 hrs it takes to get out of DC.
