Has anyone out had any major trouble with their 6 speeds. I had heard that they were bullet proof until I met a guy the other day that was on his 3rd transmission. Truck is stock, pulls a 32' fifth wheel. No lugging also has 4. 1 diff.
I love mine so far - just realize these AREN'T drag racing machines, treat the transmission with respect and most likely it will reward you with a long and trouble free lifespan!
They don't seem to accept fast or speedshifts very well - entirely understandable when you look at the massive size of the transmission and visualize all the spinning mass of gears in there that must be abruptly halted at each shift by the syncros - no small task! I find that if I simply allow a small pause between shifts to allow the engine RPM to drop, mine shifts VERY easily and smoothly - but try to rush it, and I get noticeable resistance as I attempt to rush into the next gear as the syncros protest the thoughtless haste I am demanding of them...
Besides, the extra care you give the transmission will also benefit the clutch as well...
I normally drive with the center console down for an armrest, and the shifter is right there at my hand - very easy and effortless shifting - as long as I remember to sorta take my time and let engine speed drop down closer to transmission RPM so's to reduce stress on the syncros...
