Buying used CTD

Hello to all, I have owned a 95 4x4 auto for a while and just purchased a 99 6 speed 4x4 quad cab:D my question is are all the 6 speed manuals a HO  this forum rocks:cool:

Welcome to the TDR, and congrats on your new 6speed (best of the bunch IMHO)

To answer your question, when the 6 speed came out, there were a few SO's with the NV5600 in them, but I can't remember the year. Yours may very well be a SO. You will have to look at the VIN number to find out for sure. In 2003, DC finally put an auto on the HO engine.

Decode your VIN here

I am 99% sure that all of the 99 and 2000 6speeds were SO's. But don't be discouraged - the SO has a lot of bombing potential and even stock, I have yet to run out of power on mine.

Otis is correct. The 2001 model year was the first year with the HO (ETH) motor. The NV5600 debuted in 1999 on a very, very few trucks, and in 2000 on a few more. I work with a guy who has a 2000 with the 6 speed. He was kind enough to let me test drive it, which was what sealed the deal on my getting my truck.

I had heard it won't be until the 2004 trucks that you can get an auto with the HO motor, but maybe that was the first of the 3rd Gen trucks that you can get the HO in Kalifornia... .

Actually, I have a friend in our RVing group who has a 2003 HO with the 48RE. Not a bad truck!

HO 6 speed 2001, your truck has the smaller input shaft, and I think it uses a smaller flywheel.

See my sig. :D

They started building them in January, 2003. :-laf

FWIW, I ran across a posting on another forum that claimed that the 48RE, internally, is pretty much the same as a beefed-up 47RE with the added advantage of working with the Jacobs Exhaust Brake.

All I can say is that this thing is a fantastic hauler! Oo.

I love my 6 speed!!!! I cannot believe they did not come out with one earlier in the life of these trucks! After I killed my 5, the 6'er was the only way to go!!!! Runs very cool, and has a little taller OD gear... . Makes for a triple digit truck!
