Wow,that make so much sense it's scary.

Tho, the un-even firing will be interesting in a v-8 configuration to get rebalanced right.

Pretty interesting stuff! Should be interesting to see what kind of power it can produce. Looks like some people are finally catching up to the idea of water injection :-laf:-laf

I've seen that before a while back.

I'd think it would be great for a steady state application or even a vehicle with a CVT transmission...

On edit: I'm not knocking his work, but he just lost all sorts of credibility with these statements in that article...

"Especially an 18-wheeler, they've got that massive radiator that weighs 800, 1000 pounds. "

800lb radiator?! :)

"fan losses are extremely high on a big diesel truck. ” Really - when's the last time you've looked at a big diesel truck? Did you happen to notice the FAN CLUTCH?

OTR trucks hold 50+ quarts of oil, so there must be quite a bit of coolant too, eh? All that 'water' adds up to at least a few hundred pounds...

Deutz seems to have the air cooled diesels down to a science. I've only seen them at tractor pulls and they run like mad!

It may not be a class 8 truck, but when the fan kicks in on my bus, you can certainly feel it pull the engine down a little.

I thought of an idea for building an engine like this many years ago. It would be a little different, but very similar. It would be a combination of diesel and water injection, running on steam expansion on every other power stroke.
