Uh-oh I think I have a problem!

I noticed with the 600 Juice/Attitude that the wastegate doesn't operate. I can peg my 35psi boost gauge way too easily. Also, when I set the Attitude to show boost pressure it never goes above 32psi. Is this a normal for the J/A? Is it some kind of boost fooling?

what does the J/A use for wastegate modification on 3rd gen? is it a turnbuckle/spring setup? Is it the boost elbow? I'm not familiar with the CR engines, but there needs to be two things for a boost increase on all of our trucks:

1) mechanical method of holding the wastegate closed longer,

2) electronic signal 'modification' from the MAP sensor to the computer so as not to set an overboost trouble code.

The difference between the boost numbers may be due to the location of the boost readings (turbo outlet, airhorn, intake manifold, etc) or just the inaccuracy of the gauges.

The wastegate on the 600 is all electronically controlled. Before the J/A the wastegate would go off between 25 and 32 psi. Now, the wastegate doesn't go off at all. I'm wondering if this is normal for the J/A to disable the wastegate.

If the wastegate is electronically controlled, then couldn't Edge set the voltage values to a point where the WG opens at 32#? The other possibility is that the fueling is controlled to stay below 32#, so when the monitor sees 32#, it starts to defuel. Might be EGT related as far as the controlling input.

I know my turbo will produce more boost with larger injectors (or a heavy load going uphill), but right now it maxes out at 46# in daily driving. If you get info from Edge or one of the vendors, please post it so we can all learn.

Thanks!

The wastegate is not totaly electronically controlled... ... ... it functions as all the previous actuators with the exception that the boost signal can be bypassed through an internal passage by an ecm controlled solenoid alowing more boost.

So there's still a mechanical linkage, but the ECM can control the opening of the wastegate with the solenoid. Back to the original question, at what boost does the J/A open the wastegate? ... or does bmallen have a boost leak?

This is what I got back from Edge:

Brian, the Juice and Attitude will disable the factory

wastegate, this is why we can defuel for turbo boost. We feel the stock

turbo can be run safely up to 36psi of boost. This should be what the

Attitude was preset to by us. The max boost adjustment in the Attitude

works the same as the wastgate opening, once we see the psi of boost the

Attitude is set for it will back the power off to control the boost. On

the horsepower, the Juice and Attitude will provide from 25-100

horsepower over stock. Most customers who are dynoing their trucks after

installing the Juice and Attitude are getting 120-125 horsepower, but it

is rated to 100 horsepower.

Thanks

So basiclly no more wastegate. I guess I have to be careful and hope the boost limit for defueling I have set at 32psi does it's job.

Anybody want to buy a slightly used Diprocal 35psi boost gauge? I think I'm in the market for a 60.

The ecm can open the by-pass ckt to allow no boost signal to get to the actuator. ;)
