CAT power up??

VW Jetta TDI - Towing!?

My first laugh was... why do all this to a 4x4 when your goal is the win light at the drag strip. Guess maybe this will give it the much needed traction... kinda like those Syclone GMC S-10's.

Second... why stuff all that engine in a 1500 chassis. I hope the GM transfer case and front axle will hold all that power. I've seen several GM front ends go out from just a stock 350 gasser.

Kinda "cheating" when you put the engine in a chassis much lighter than the 2500 or 3500 chassis... and then claim your faster than everyone else who have heavier trucks.

Better call Banks and get that Cummins Powered Dakota out with some drag strip gearing.

Better yet, stuff a 700HP B5. 9 in a funny car chassis then put a Dodge 1500 carbon fiber body shell on it... with some of those stickers that make the headlights look real. The rules have changed :D

They can hype all they want, but unless they get out there and start spankin' the likes of Jim Fuller, Christian Roth or HVAC at the track, then it's nothing but talk. . .

With 800 hp using NO2 and propane, do they think alum. heads are gonna work? That is if they even get there.   What a turdmobile.

83 crew cab needs to get that Lil' Red Wagon runnin' and spank that thing's butt.

That's an understatement! :D I must admit, Cummins is my preference, but anything that is forced induction and run's on #2 is enough to catch my eye.

Rumor

I think that the engine may be legit. I hear through the diesel grape vine that there was such a Duramax made for running pike's peak or something. Somehow the owner of that page either bought the engine or was given the thing. Either way, diesel is diesel, fast is fast, PSD, Duramax, or Cummins at that HP range is only racing to the finish. I'd be more interested in seeing how all three of the engines internals look after a true, equal engine dyno test that took all engines to their "advertised" life span limit at stock Hp levels. I think that the results would suprise everyone.

The guy on the Diesel page is using a production motor. He was supposed to get the motor from the Pikes Peak truck but got a stock one instead. I think the only difference in the two motors is the rev limiter is 5000 rpm on the Pikes Peak truck and 3400 on the stock one.

I don't see why some of you guys can't give credit to anything but Cummins.

800 JHP

This is a perfect example of the new tec of competition. All you have to do is watch the Southern Cal. kids with there rice rocket 1/4mile cars. The Chev 1500 is the same = Take a Jap engine and add some American tecnology and daring and you have a cool race truck. I am sure it is not ment to pull anything other than itself. To put this truck in the same category as the full 3/4 or 1 ton 1/ mile racers would be foolish. Give the Chevy credit for what it is, but none for what it is not.

I just want to see that engine turn 5 grand. If those heads can hold up and that whole engine doesn't go KABOOM I'll be impressed.

I wonder how many guys here think a inline is better only because they read it here somewhere.

Gonzo, I don't think the project is meant for anything but drag racing.

Ncostello, I don't see anywhere on TDP that says he is building it targeting 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. It's a hot rodding project truck, if you lose to it in a race it is what it is, run what you brung. Nobody is taking away the fact the Dodge can be made in to a fast ass truck.

Just like a 5. 9 turnning 6,000 rpm right?

I think it's true, heck if Schieds can make an inline turn 6,000, then why can't a duramax block do the same when it's a v?

Andrew

It's not the block and I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but wouldn't you think that the aluminum heads would stress crack or be unable to handle the extra heat, pressure of the added rpm's?

I have heard of aftermarket heards for this engine. ;)

The heads don't care how fast all those other parts are moving, it's the valve train and those heavy diesel pistons and con rods that care about RPMs. Combustion pressures and EGT are not necessarily related to RPM.
