I hear a lot about the great power increases with some of the aftermarket boxes but does anyone have any good news for the poor mileage situation with the 600 running some of these devices. Airaide filter and complete 4 inch exhaust didn't help mine much. Getting about 13 mpg running empty on daily drives, if you put your foot in it much it will easily drop to 12 mpg.

I thought all 600s had stock 4 inch exhaust. Mine does. Did you replace the stock exhaust with a DPP?

Mine is getting great mileage

I just drove from Wisconsin to Alaska, pulling over 10k (fifth wheel). Before I left WI, I was getting 18. 5mpg (empty) with about 1000 miles on the clock. I'm now in Anchorage with over 5000 miles, almost 4000 were one hell of a pull, and am now seeing over 20 unloaded, all hand calculations, although the overhead has been pretty close everytime. Once I calculate all data gathered from the trip I'll post my findings. One thing is for sure, the 600 with the NV5600 is a real clydesdale when it comes to pulling, more to come

I had ordered the exhaust before I got the truck not knowing it had a 4 inch from the factory but decided to use it hoping for a little less back pressure not sure it worked but sure did get a sweet sound from their muffler.

Wow Bert that is some great mileage numbers, maybe its the six speed that helps, mine is an auto with 3600 mi.

I have an '03 and no mods at all... 11k miles, and I still average 11. 5 daily... 9. 5 to 10 towing. Absolutely fed up with the crappy mileage. Changed my fuel filter and made no difference. My second Cummins that gets crappy mileage. It will probably be my last.

BTW this is calculated mpg not based on the trip computer.

Automatic 4x4 duallys are the worst combo for mileage, the best I ever hear of unloaded is generally 17-18 mpg for any 24-valve rig, 2nd or 3rd Gen. Typical is approx 16. But 13 mpg isn't up to par IMO.

It's not just auto's... my 6 spd, 3500 srw is at 7600 miles and still 8-9 towing and 13 empty - essentially no change from off the lot.

well you wont like this, I just did some mixed city/hwy and after refil I hand calculated 18!! On a side note I noticed I get some pinging or knock on steep grades. anyone else have that happen or is this motor so much quieter than my 02 was that I can now here it knocking?
