As I understand it, if You want to preserve Your warranty, the Mopar stuff or a Dodge approved aftermarket product is the way to go. Since I kind of like my warranty, I went with the Mopar stuff (very expensive, though). But for the trans. (NV5600), I went with Pennzoil Synchromesh Transmission Fluid, Stock #3501. It's supposed to meet the standards for Chrysler part # 4874464(specification MS9224). I was recently told that Pennzoil makes this product for Mopar and is relabeled by Mopar. I was, also, told that Texaco makes it.
If I'm not mistaken, Joe Donnelly, is using Red Line in his 6-sp. and if memory serves me right, I think He said it shifts smoother, now.
Whatever You decide to do, I have heard that it is critical to use the right gear oil in the trans. I have been told that because of the Yellow Metals (synchros) in the trans. You don't want to have a GL-5 gear oil, in there, but a GL-4. Aparently, the GL-5 has acids in it that attack the yellow metals and reduce their life expectancy, by one half. Also, the oil should be less slippery so that the synchro's will slow down more quickly to speed up the downshifting with less gear clash.
If You are going to do the work yourself and decide to use the Mopar stuff, it pays to shop the different dealers. There was a price fluctuation of between $15 and $21 per quart for the same gear oil. The GM dealer wanted $26/qt. for the rear diff. oil. (American Axle).
You might want to do a search, on this site. There has been a lot of discussion about the different lubes. There are a lot of guys here that know a lot more than I do about this stuff.
For what it's worth, this past week-end, at a truck and sand vehicle show, I talked with a company that builds heavy-duty transaxles for high powered dune buggys and they said they tried a lot of different gear oils and found Red Line products to be the best, by far.
