I'm still new at this bombing stuff. I'm learning that it is trial and error and that the errors are usually wasted money. My bombing started with an EZ Edge and some gauges to monitor the egt's and boost.

My first bomb mistake was drilling the egt probe hole in the center of the manifold where it meets the turbo. There's a plentium in the center of the down portion of the manifold and I drilled right into it. Lets just say I ruined the manifold. The fix was a nice ATS exhaust manifold.

My second mistake was buying the 3g Piers modified turbo for towing. I'm not going to slam Piers here, in fact they make awesome stuff and their staff is excellent. However this modified 3g turbo caused a barking condition when I towed my travel trailer in overdrive. This turbo also would also bark alot under hard acceleration. I called Piers shop and they said that others had experienced the same barking condition with this turbo. I guess it works for some but not all. They in turn recommended a new bigger turbo. This time the fix was to install a 62/12 Phat Shaft turbo. I have to say that this is one sweet turbo. First off, I'm running the EZ on level 2 and this new Phat Shaft seems to spool just as fast as the stock or modified 3g turbo. Also there is no noticeable smoke when you step on it and best of all the barking gone. My first full throttle launch (after Break-in) I accelerated to 85 MPH. The hottest the egt's got was 975*. This is definitely down 200+ degrees.

Theres one more strange thing that I'm seeing with this new turbo and that is that my overhead mpg (pos) calculator has gone up 9/10s MPG. With my old modified turbo the overhead constantly read 16. 7 MPG while driving around town. With this new turbo it's reading 17. 6 MPG in town and if anything I'm driving it harder. It makes no sense.

When I installed my sps 66 in my 05, I picked up 1. 5 mpg on the overhead and calculated. I think its due to less pumping losses required to drive the turbo at part throttle. Going from a 9 cm to a 14 cm housing in my case, along with a bigger turbo has dropped the psi at crusie, which I think helps the mileage since you are not driving the turbo as hard. .
