I have found a '67 Ford F100, 6. 5-foot bed, with a freshly rebuilt 240-six cylinder, four-speed with granny gear, fresh paint, including frame, redone interior, new brakes, clutch, great shape owned by automotive shop owner. Drove it once, it drove well, gonna drive again on Tuesday. What concerns should I look for in the truck? Does any one know what kind of fuel mileage I could get? I plan to keep my 1st Gen CTD, just wonder if this is a good classic to buy? Asking price: $5k.

are all the parts original for that year model? obiviously part ### will not match, but if so, sounds good. If not, it sure sounds like someone is selling the truck to get their money back from the parts invested or somewhat. I would try to talk him/her down at least 500 bucks to a 1000 if possible. If ya like it, buy it..... IMHO

I wouldn't call it a classic, but then my wife doesn't think much of my 59 Power Wagon either. My only advice if you're looking for a vintage vehicle is to get something you have a little passion about. When it all comes down to it... who cares what other people think. Buy what ever you like to drive and enjoy going through the gears.
 
I can tell you about my personal experience that 240" eng.

It was in a 60's era Ford van that I drove, with no mercy, for several years. ( It was a construction co. truck. )

The only problem I ever had with it was cracked exh. manifolds. (2or3)

One night I was driving cross country, about 75 MPH (wide open), when for some reason, I opened the top on the eng. compartment to look at something. The exh. manifold was so hot, it was glowing bright red. It's no wonder it cracks manifolds.

When I left the company, it was still running strong.

As for fuel mileage, it was not too bad, considering it was always loaded, and driven hard.

IMO thats a great engine.

I had a 71 Furd F250, which I purchased new. All the time I had the truck it was nothing but a pain in the butt. I had major engine problems, had to replace the 390 engine twice. Had clutch problems, which was replaced 3 times. I went through many alternators, starters, water pumps, fuel pumps and one power steering pump.



My advice is, I would never buy an old ford truck. I wouldn't even buy a new one.
 
I have a friend with a '67 he restored, just like the one you are considering, except his has the 300 engine. Both engines are basicly the same. Great engine, reliable tough truck, but the 4 wheel drum brakes suck and the gasoline tank is right behind the seat. The 4 speed granny transmission is damn near bullet proof, as are the inline 6 engines. It is not really a collector item and may never be, but if you like it and it seems like a strong, solid truck, go for it. Powertrain wise, you are not going wrong.

Look under the bottom side of the front of the bed and the inside of the fenderwells (back side of the panels) to check for rust repair... a fresh paint job can be a sign of fresh rust repair. Look under the cab floor board also for rust or rust repair.
 
Sounds like a good truck the 240 cid 6 cyl was a ok motor not going to pull a house down but should get roughly 16 or better being a calif truck should not be a problem with rust unless it's from the east at some time . easy to swap a small block into them also chnage the frame mounts and it will bolt right back in . if your looking for a putt around truck I would say it's a good one not sure if I would pay 5000 for it thou but thats just me .
