68 RFE Problems??

I just came from the dealer about a vibration I have been experiencing, like driving over light rumble strips. The tech comes back and says the torque converter has gone bad and possible some other things too. He will know when it gets torn down. I go back Tuesday for a rebuild, will be down 2-3 days. Has any one else had any experience with this?? I tow about 6500 lbs. daily and on occasion, my 39' 18000 lbs. fifth wheel. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

The 68RFE has been very reliable so far. Other than shift feel concerns that were addressed with software, there have been very few hard part failures.

How many miles, fluid service, fluid condition, modifications, etc?

This might be a long shot, but I've experienced this on one of my older trucks when a U-joint was going bad. It could also be an out of balance drive shaft. Just an idea...

I have had no issues at all, except for a couple of flashes, that is it. I have just turned 28,000 miles, no mods except what I have in my signature, have not been due for service on the trans yet, fluid is still bright red.

My friends 08 had bad bearings in the transmission traced back to a small number that were built improper at the factory. His started with vibration in the truck at around 20K. They replaced it with a new one and he has been happy. By the way his old transmission was shipped back and torn down by Star to see what had happened-Hope this helps.
