I'd pay a pretty good $$$$ for 68RFE in a 5. 9. as would many others.

Got to believe some outfit has a skunkworks project thinking about it.

If the 68RFE is as solid as it's claimed to be, why pour money into Allison project?

My guess is the software to run the transmission in either conversion, is the real hitch. I would think the 68rfe is a bolt on and the Alli probably requires an adapter at the bellhousing. The Alli is way more common right now so the price for a transmission is probably less. I would have to think that getting two Dodge programmed computers to talk would be easier than getting a Dodge to talk to a Chevy, that seems to be how it is with the owners anyway:-laf

It looks like the 68rfe is the best diesel trans to come from an american auto maker yet. But, being from a manufacturer, run by bean counters, there are always compromises. Those of us that don't like to compromise performance, may find the newer highly electronic trans very hard to modified. Oh, it can be done, but at what cost? I just got my 48re DTT'd and the installer said they are having a lot of trouble getting the newer computer controlled 48re's to shift right. I can't imagine how much trouble the 68 would be. But I have to admit, a fully built 68rfe behind a 4-500hp 5. 9 is a really cool idea.

Wow, the 68rfe is even better than I thought. I sure would love to drive one. On second thought, maybe I shouldn't. I don't need anything to get me thinking. :D
