Greetings all,

I currently have my 2014 Ram at the transmission shop for several upgrades ( Revmax billet valve body, Goerend deep pan and ATS bypass valve ). The transmission shop informed me that a billet filter clamp that I provided could not be used in conjunction with the Revmax VB. They also stated that retention clips that they commonly use cannot be used due to the thickness of the billet VB plate.

Has anyone else crossed this bridge with a billet channel plate? Is this really a problem to run without a secondary filter retention device?

I appreciate your input.

This one?

Yes, that’s the one. I purchased this product as additional security for the flat filter, but it won’t work with the billet channel plate.

Description for that clamp states,"for use with deep pan running stock valve body plate". The Revmax VB may have their own fastener system for the filter.

I installed a Mag-Hytec deep transmission pan for my 68RFE at 16,000 miles on my 2008 truck. Since than I have changed the transmission filters and oil two more additional times. I have never ever had the flat filter become displaced from its primary location.

Why do you think you need an additional clamp to keep the filter in place? Did you read online that you needed this device or was this recommend by someone else?

This is the first time that I have read about this device. It seems to me there are not many reviews about users for this device. WHY?

Not sure either why you need something special to hold the OEM filter in place. Can't you use one of the existing screws and a piece of sheet metal to "clamp" the end of the filter with the OEM screw hole up to the valve body?

Thanks for the reply. I’m not sure I need this device either, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt and might prove to be cheap insurance against a dropped filter. I was also told by employees at the transmission shop that they use a clip type retention device, however it would not work with my VB.

Apparently, someone somewhere thought the flat filter needed a secondary retention device, or they created a simple product to feed their bank account. I’m okay running without the retention device.

On a side note, I’ve got the truck back with new parts installed. Line pressure was left alone at stock. The Revmax in this configuration operates and feels like a stock a VB. Normal shift pattern and normal feeling shifts.
