1985 Mallard motorhome conversion

Has anyone done a conversion into any old Internationals? The original engine in this chassis was an International (nee American Motors) straight 6. Thinking of converting it from a 345 V-8 gas to a 6 BT to run on biodiesel.

i have a 74 1600 series dump truck. it has a v8 392 that does not run well. i have thought of doing the same. i fear it would cost more than the truck is worth.

All you need is 38" from the firewall to the radiator and room in front of the radiator for the aftercooler, about another 3".

Ih Conversions

Well mine isn't a 1600, so my conversion may not be as much help, but I'm yanking a 345 to be replace with a 6bt and a nv 5600 in my 73 IH crew cab. started dismanting the front radiator support last night should have the motor hanging in there by the end of the weekend ( probably won't be complete for a few months since the budget is limited right now. I just want to dispose of the breadvan body that is storing the 6b. I will try to take some pictures as I go. IH v-8s are huge so I don't think there will be a problem with fitting the motor but the inter cooler may be a trick. let the wrenching begin Oo.

International used to have a big six in the 40's and 50's. Did they ever put it in the newer trucks? If they did, the 6BT should fit in without a problem.

i dropped it in the truck for a trial fit and it looks like there won't be much problems. The worst of my problems will be making a small notch in the frame to clear the ac compressor

You could move the engine to the left to get the clearance if the the steering doesen't get in the way. I did just the opposite for my wife's Willys, moved the engine to the right 1" to make room for the steering.

Oakwood head down to your local Cummins store and purches part #3930888. This bracket will move the Dodge A/C compressor up above the frame so you will not have to cut the frame at all.
