Does the shift knob just unscrew?Tried to twist it off,no luck.

any ideas? I did not want to break anything.

VERY carefully pry out the cover that contains the shift pattern. There is a lock nut under there that needs to be loosened first.

Same procedure. Tighten the lock nut.
