I get what seems like a lot of bearing noise when idling in neutral, with clutch out. I took it to the dealer and their trans guy drove it with me, and he seemed to think it was normal. We tried to compare it to the 25 new 2010's on the lot, but not one of them had a manual.

Anyway, he said that the bearing noise was normal, and that as long as it wasn't a "gravelly" sound, it isn't anything to worry about.

My 01 didn't seem to have this, of course you couldn't hear anything over that engine.

Does anyone else have any of this type of bearing noise idling in neutral? It stops when the clutch is in.

FYI, the truck has 1600 miles on it, and it was doing it on the lot when I picked it up. It has been consistant, with no change.

Thanks in advance guys.

Aaron.

I wouldn't say its loud, just noticeable. When the clutch is in, all that you can hear is the engine. When it is out, there is "additional" noise. I wouldn't say its loud, just noticeable.

Your old truck had a big heavy cast iron case that damped much of the gear and bearing noise every trans makes, especially those that are as big as we have in our trucks. I doubt there is anything wrong, hardly ever is with G56. If the noise hasn't changed in 1600 miles probably nothing to worry about.

Mine and my neighbor's g-56's are as silent as my old Honda Accord. Maybe somebody reading this post will contact you for a comparison.

The drive line should be the same for any 07 thru present MY, for comparing the clutch noise. It could be your throw out bearing/ pilot bearing, making the noise, which would sound slightly different, and be normal noise.

Sounds like the throwout bearing is out, if you allow the dealer to dely fixing the problem by pulling the trany and replacing the clutch thowout bearing or what ever is the offender it will cost around $2250 if you have to pay for it. My junky throwout bearing went sour and i had to drive it home and it ruined the joke dual mass flywheel and cluth set up!! Find another dealer and tell them to fix the noise or you will have a lemon law lawyer contact them and demand them to get repairs started. There is no excuse for any noise from a new truck, hope it is a new truck and not a slightly used one that has been repaired and replaced under a lemon law??
