All right guys... . I have a friend that has an 04' (305-555) with an edge EZ box. The truck is 1 ton dually 4 wheel drive. He wants me to ask you all about his wierd clutch sensations. He says loaded when he lets out on the clutch it feels like a vibration is coming over the whole truck. He says it almost knocks his foot off the clutch. He says it doesnt feel like its shutering more like a bucking or vibration. The way he explained it to me "it feels like a button clutch, like it either wants full engagement or disengegement but nothing in between" Any ideas???? Thanks for your help guys I appreciate your time.

Does he always engage the clutch without pressing the throttle at all? I do it that way and never have any shudder.

Sounds like something is binding up. Check parking brake, make sure it's not sticking. Check clutch fluid... could be a bad master/slave assembly. Does he sit at stop lights with the clutch depressed? How many miles?

Mine does it also when towing. It's spring wrap. I get it when going thru the gears uphill or going thru the gears too fast. Tell him to slow his shifts down and match his rpm more closely and it WILL go away. Just need to drive a little different with the long, soft rear springs. Cured it for me. My opinion and experience only...

Sound like part of the "payment" for that "greatly improved ride" in the third genny trucks came via a softer, more flexible set of rear springs...

Payback cn be hell sometimes... ;)

Not a dig - just an observation...

Sounds like your friend overheated the flywheel and pressure plate which created hot spots (high spots). This causes the clutch disc to grap the flywheel and pressure plate and not slip until its engaged like its suppose to. This shakes the whole drivetrain. He will need to a new disc, pressure plate and resurface flywheel. Might as well replace throw out bearing and check pilot bearing/bushing in crank while your at it. Tell your friend to not rev the engine so high when he engages the clutch.

That's what is sounds like to me from what you describe... .

Good Luck!
