Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 7/70 warranty what Gives ?

My neighbors 99 Dodge just had a injector pump fail.

Our local Visalia Dodge charged him 2900 bucks to replace it saying it wasn't covered under warranty. The truck has 60000 miles on it.

Why doesn't the 7/70 warranty cover the injector pump?

Two possibilities:



When did it go into service? If before July of 1998 (not uncommon for a 99 model year) then the 7 years is up.



Does the 7/70 terms and conditions exclude the engine? Seems kinda skrewed, but maybe there are some words that say something like "excluding other components covered by separate warranty terms. " If so, the 5 years on the Cummins is up.



If both of the above are false - then fight it with DC and get the money back. There should be a number to call in the owners manual.

Generally... the 7/70 is a drivetrian warranty. The engine carries the 5/100 including the injection pump.

The '99 would be out of the 5/100 because of the time factor.

The 5yr/100,000mile takes effect the day the truck left the lot. I just found out when my truck was originally purchased. I have an '01 but it didn't sell until 6/27/01, so my warranty is actually almost a year later than I would have thought.

Was the truck purchased/ sold new in CA? If so, the CA emissions warranty will apply to the pump as it is part of the fuel / emissions system. CA emissions warranty is 7/70. Check pg 16/17 of the warranty booklet that came with the truck. If you don't have it send me a fax # and I'll shoot a copy of mine to you. I own a CA truck and my 1st pump died at 68 or so K. The dealer in NH came out and said sorry, no warranty. I had to stubbornly insist that he go back and run the s/n again to verify it was a CA vehicle. He came back and said he didn't know about the CA warranty but that the truck was covered from fuel tank to engine. If the dealer is in CA then he knows about the CA warranty.

Go back and have them make it right.

So just like me currently (130K) you are no longer in warranty and on your own.

100K miles, or 5 years from the date of new vehicle delivery to the original purchaser, whatever comes first.

Correct.

The 7/70 warranty is everything but the engine.

The engine is 5/100.

I'd say figure out when the truck was originally purchased and if it still under warrant, I'd raise h*ll.

Thanks! Time for a lift pump... . I experience "dead pedal" yesterday on an interstate trip. I've never had anything like it before. All indications lead me to believe that's the problem. Will they put a new injection pump on at the same time?

SO... ..... The 7/70 is vehicle? the 5/100 is powertrain, bc I thought the 7/70 was the Dodge powertrain warranty, I didnt know about the 5/100 from Cummins???



Man I am so confused. My Injection Pump is dying on me - 0216/1693 and it goes in for service today.

Hard to say. Just because the LP died doesn't mean they will replace the IP. They will likely just replace the parts as they officially die. Did you get an error code when you got the dead pedal?

3/36K- vehicle warranty

7/70K- drivetrain (depending on model year & when it was puchased- does not apply to ALL trucks)

5/100K- Cummins warranty (incl. lift pump and injector pump)

Yeah, I now have 0216/1693 with the dead pedal, not codes on fuel pump, I have a guage and notice it dropping some pounds and sometimes under hard assualts it would dip to about 6 pounds.

Just wondering, why I only have a 3/36 warranty on my 2001, if the 7/70 went into effect in 1998?? Does the power train warranty cover Trans etc? Why would one truck only have a 3/36 and another have a 7/70?

I thought the 7/70K promo didnt start untill '02. Bc if I remember it was right inline with the debut of the new body style. When I was siging the paperwork I was speaking with the finanance manager about it and why would I want an extended warranty with all of this factory coverage.

Here's what I found out today. I spoke to two dealers including the one where I bought my truck. Mine is an '02 purchased in Oct of '02. I currently have 91,300 miles on it. One service writer said my lift pump and injection pump is covered by Cummins. The other service writer (where I bought the truck) colaborated this by checking my VIN # in his computer. He said "yes, the lift pump and injector pump, a $2,500 repair, will be covered by Cummins. "



I am well out of any 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, as well as the 7/70 powertrain warrantly offered by Chrysler. However, this is a Cummins warrantly (5yr/100,000 mile). I am very skeptical of dealers and will attempt to get something in writing before I proceed.

Wondering about this (I too thought that the 7/70 started with the new body style) I pulled out my Warranty Booklet. There is no mention of "Powertrain" warranty in it. The 3/36 is listed as the Basic Limited Warranty Coverage.



One thing I did notice that I did not realize is that the 5/100k Cummins engine warranty begins at the end of the 3/36 coverage. I found this under the "when does it begin" section of the Cummins Warranty section of the book.



Does that mean that if your 3/36 expires at 3years (not mileage) and then your 5/100k Cummins warranty begins, is your engine really covered for 8 years total if it does not turn 100K?

ps: Eryenolds, the injection pump is listed in my warranty booklet as being a part replaced under the 5/100 Cummins warranty. I wouldnt think that from 2001 to 2002 that that changed.
