.

Thanks for the link. I have purchased the parts and am hoping to start it this weekend.

I am looking for ideas from folks who have installed the plug and where... In the floor? on the side? any issues with bed re- inforcing when drilling the hole... etc.

I am doing something similar to what the link is sdvertising. But, I am running a flat 4 wire from the rear (from the 4 under the hitch) up to the front of the bed at the cab. I am going to run a 12 gauge cable with continuous duty solenoid from the engine compartment back and mate them at the 7 pin in the bed.

Just looking for suggestions for the actual placement and mounting of the 7 pin recepticle in the bed.

Thanks,

-frank.

ON EDIT: I could use the harness as shown in the link... . I have heard that the 12Vdc want to be of a larger gage than that shown. Aslo, with that harness I do beileve that since it essentially duplicated the factory 7 pin at the rear, the 12VDC is always "hot. " i. e. it is still on when the keyed ignition is off.

HA! *THAT* is the magic harness!

Dad had a plug put in the bed of his 99 3500. The socket is mounted in the column below the rearmost driver's side stake pocket. It's up out of the way and easy to get to.

I put mine on the left side a couple of inches above the bottom of the bed in the side wall about 8 or 10 inches forward of the wheel well.

I don't know if you mean camper as in slide in or a 5th wheel. In the case of a slide in, my plug was originally in the bed. After it came loose (didn't fall out) a couple of times, it was a PITA to lift the camper to snug it back into place. I added a second receptacle under the bed and I route the camper cable between the cab and bed. Now I can reach it w/o having to undo the hold downs and raise the camper. Just for info.

I put mine in front of the wheel well. I haul a lot of stuff in the bed and wanted to plug up higher so that it didn't get broken and full of dirt. I put it up about as high as I could without hitting the bedside.

Hrmm, now that I have the connector and am looking at it and since mine is a short bed I don't want to cover it up should I later add a tool box or bed tank.

In this case for a short bed it looks like the most logical spot is left rear staying as high as possible.

mine is behind the wheel well, about 4" above the floor in the "deepest" part of the inner bed wall. the PO installed it and it was used for his slide in and a 5er.

i've used it with a gooseneck and it was easy to just reach in and plug/unplug
